After spending nearly 8 years building Zypp Electric, Akash Gupta has identified a major gap in India’s EV ecosystem most fleet businesses don’t fail due to lack of demand, but due to poor operations. According to him, the EV fleet model looks simple from the outside, attracting new operators who invest in deploying dozens or even hundreds of vehicles. However, within months, many of these businesses shut down. The reason is hidden complexity. From vehicle breakdowns and faster wear and tear to driver misuse, inconsistent maintenance and lack of proper tracking, small inefficiencies quietly pile up. Over time, this turns into operational chaos and financial losses, making the business unsustainable. To solve this, Gupta has now launched FleetEase.ai, a SaaS platform designed specifically for EV fleet operators. The platform provides a centralized system to manage the entire fleet ecosystem, including drivers, maintenance, spare parts and day-to-day operations, all backed by real-time insights. It also includes multiple apps for operators, drivers and mechanics to streamline coordination on ground. Happy to announce that I’m starting a new startup… Yes, you heard it right.. After 8 years of building my Green EV Tech Startup, Zypp Electric, I feel the EV industry more of me and hence this move. Every time I step out on a Zypp scooter and visit markets, I come across new fleets with different coloured bikes, sometimes blue, sometimes orange, sometimes white, sometimes purple…new branding, and operators who are clearly trying to replicate in the EV space with a lot of intent and belief. They put in their hard-earned capital, deploying 50 bikes, sometimes 100, sometimes even 500, and for a brief moment it feels like they have cracked something. But when I revisit the same areas after a few months, most of those Colorful EV fleets are no longer there, businesses shut down, EVs vanish & this has been something thats bothering me. It is because EV looks attractive from the outside and this business looks deceptively simple while it’s extremely complex in reality. It’s like swimming in the ocean, lovely from outside, but if you don’t have the experience or skill, you drown. In an EV fleet business, there are too many moving parts that start breaking silently. Motors fail, tyres wear out faster than expected, drivers misuse vehicles, after-sales support is often inconsistent, and small inefficiencies keep adding up in ways that are not immediately visible. Over time, these small gaps turn into significant leakages, and before you realise it, the business starts bleeding without a clear reason. What most people think they are building is a fleet, but in reality what they end up managing is constant operational chaos, and that chaos is what eventually kills the business. Having seen this closely over the last several years while building Zypp, it genuinely aches to watch the same mistakes being repeated by new operators who are entering the space with the right intent but without the right systems to support them. If we don’t fix this, we won’t just lose businesses, we will slow down the entire EV transition that we are all trying to build together. I want this business shutting exercise to stop. Hence I’m launching FleetEase.ai by Zypp. This SaaS tool brings everything we have learned over the last eight years of running EV fleets, managing driver partners, managing mechanics and spare parts, everything in a single technology dashboard and 3 apps powering your EV business with a Birds Eye view.
