Considering the number of people out of jobs, I am seriously concerned. How are we as a technical writing community helping each other in such critical situations. Tech Write Pro has helped many writers get a job with its platform. As an individual and with limited resources there is only so much that can be done. I feel, we as a community need to do more. We need to support and help each other in these difficult times. Today it is someone. Tomorrow it could be you. Giving back is not optional. It is a must - especially considering the fact that our profession is a support function, and not mainstream. If we don't support fellow community members, who will? Try to help as much as possible in ethical ways - with contacts, referrals, opportunities, and anything that results in positive outcomes. Continuous engagement with community is important, not selectively. When folks have jobs they are busy, and when they don't have one - they complain others are busy. Only few want to accept and correct that situation. And it has not changed for decades. It still is the same. More the helping hands easier the situation. It has an impact and can change many lives, families, community and so on. Think about it. I also feel the recruitment systems should change. We talk about space technology and AI on one hand, and on the other hand use archaic systems for recruitment and hiring. How are we using AI for hiring? How long can we rely on those static resumes? Can you determine the potential of the candidate without talking to the them in-person or for in-person interviews OR can we wait for a long-drawn multi-level selection process to be rejected just before the offer is made citing a trivial reason. Did they not read the resume in the first place? If thousands of resumes have to be shortlisted and executives don't have the time to conduct multiple interviews - Use AI for hiring. Use bots to simulate conversations with potential candidates to check their potential. Give problems to test their communication skills, critical thinking, problem solving and various other skills. This will help know the potential, save time, can deal with volume and so on. Then, you may proceed with the in-person interview etc. With many opportunities gone, it is high time the old hiring process is gone. Embrace the new technology for hiring, check for potential, hire good candidates who slip through the cracks, help the community, enable TWs and so on. It is high time we seriously think about it.
