Cross-border payments platform Skydo has received in-principle approval to operate as a Payment Service Provider (PSP) in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City. The approval positions the company to offer services within India’s offshore financial hub focused on international financial transactions. It allows Skydo to develop capabilities such as multi-currency collections, e-money accounts, and merchant acquisition services aimed at businesses engaged in cross-border trade. Skydo has received regulatory approval from the Reserve Bank of India to support outward remittance flows under the Payment Aggregator–Cross Border (PA-CB) framework. With the latest approvals, Skydo will be able to process both inbound payments from overseas customers and outward payments to international vendors and service providers through a single platform, subject to regulatory compliance. Happy to have contributed to this piece in the Business Standard on RBI's Payments Vision 2028 by Raghu Mohan. My honest take: UPI is one of India's great achievements. But cross-border payments is a different beast. A ₹50 lakh export invoice cannot be settled the way a ₹500 coffee is. There are correspondent banks, multi-day delays, FX markups, compliance layers across jurisdictions. We deal with this every day at Skydo. A truly UPI-like cross-border experience is possible. Last week, we were at Amazon Global Selling's Export Haat in Thane. Spoke to dozens of exporters, first-time sellers, 10+ year B2B veterans, consultants, and aggregators. 🙌 We took away three insights: 1. 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠. With tariff tensions easing, the mood has changed. Conversations have moved from “Let’s wait” to “How do we scale?” 2. 𝐁2𝐁 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬. Manufacturers who’ve supplied globally for years now want margin control, brand ownership, and direct customer access. 3. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭. Export incentives, shipping bill closure, tax eligibility, and documentation are no longer an afterthought. More exporters want clean structures from Day 1. It feels like the ecosystem is maturing.
