Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan is pleased to sign a Memorandum of Understanding as part of the Canadian-Australian Pension Funds Investment Initiative, which was launched today in Australia by leaders of some of the largest pension funds and aligned investment managers in Australia and Canada. The signing was conducted in the presence of the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, the Canadian Minister of Finance and National Revenue, François-Philippe Champagne, and the Assistant Treasurer of Australia, Dr Daniel Mulino. The MoU supports Australian industry super funds, Canadian pension funds and their investment organizations to facilitate dialogue with governments on policy barriers and associated solutions to improve the business environment for investment in each jurisdiction and to unlock greater long-term capital for private investment on behalf of millions of working and retired people in both countries.

Our portfolio company Enwave Energy Corporation is advancing the growth of its district energy business. Enwave CEO Carlyle Coutinho recently joined Vinay Shandal on Boston Consulting Group (BCG)’s Pitching Progress podcast to discuss the role of district heating and cooling in building more resilient local energy systems and how these solutions can support evolving customer and utility needs. This week made clear that Canada is re-asserting itself on the world stage —run by inspiring leaders, open for business and investment, and ready to partner. What better time then to spotlight a Canadian jewel - Enwave Energy Corporation. In this latest episode of Pitching Progress, I sat with my long-time friend, Carlyle Coutinho. In addition to having fun (we do that in Canada), we talked about district heating and cool. And specifically, how Enwave uses deep lake water cooling — drawing cold water from Lake Ontario to cool and heat downtown Toronto — to deliver a pragmatic, infrastructure-led climate solution at scale. This isn’t theory. It’s real energy infrastructure serving a major global city today. What stood out is Enwave’s ambition. This is a Canadian platform with a clear path to geographic expansion, and a model that can travel to dense urban centers across markets. Companies like Enwave are exactly the kind of platforms in Canada that global pools of capital should be leaning into: innovative, scalable, and well-positioned to deliver climate impact and durable returns. 🎧 Full conversation here Spotify: https://lnkd.in/d3D52P9p Apple: https://lnkd.in/dVQvs438 International District Energy Association Ontario Energy Association

2025 marked 35 years since Ontario Teachers’ was founded in 1990. It was built on a bold, first-of-its-kind model that helped shape the global “Maple 8” standard for pension excellence. To mark this milestone, we sat down with past and present leaders to share the story of Ontario Teachers’ in their own words. From our beginnings as a newly independent plan to becoming one of the world’s leading institutional investors, our journey reflects 35 years of innovation, leadership, and a steadfast commitment to delivering retirement security for Ontario’s teachers.

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Jenny Hammarlund as our Executive Managing Director of Real Estate. In this role, she will be responsible for guiding Real Estate’s strategy, portfolio, and asset management activities globally. She joined Cadillac Fairview in 2021 and helped ensure a successful integration of CF’s international investment team into a standalone department at Ontario Teachers’. “I am pleased to see Jenny step into this leadership role at a critical time for our plan. Real estate is an important asset class for Ontario Teachers’ as it helps provide stable and predictable income to match our long-term liabilities, and its returns are typically uncorrelated to those of equities or bonds. Her leadership skills and experience investing globally make her the ideal person to drive our performance-focused diversification strategy in real estate over the coming years,” said Gillian Brown, Chief Investment Officer, Public & Private Investments. Congratulations on your new role, Jenny! Read more: https://lnkd.in/gzTt_Svy
