On my way back home after a wonderful Society for Scholarly Publishing Annual Meeting. As always, it was a fantastic experience, but this year felt especially warm, perhaps because we were in sunny San Diego! It was great reconnecting with so many colleagues and meeting many others in person for the very first time. It was also a pleasure to finally meet The Scholarly Kitchen Chefs and editors face to face. Watch out for the upcoming Ask the Chefs post on TSK about the SSP experience next week! On behalf of Integra and myself, big thank you to the SSP staff and volunteers for organizing such a great meeting. Safe travels to everyone heading home, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon. #SSP2026 #ScholarlyPublishing

  • Journal publishing does not need more disconnected efficiency. It needs integrated control. Integra’s OneFlo brings AI-enabled workflow intelligence and expert-led execution together to help publishers scale journal operations with visibility, continuity, and accountability.   Disruption to Direction continues with the latest blog in the series by Ashutosh Ghildiyal, VP – Growth & Strategy, Integra. This perspective examines why journal publishing operations must move beyond fragmented workflows and disconnected vendor models toward integrated, scalable execution. For editorial leaders navigating rising submission pressure, quality expectations, and operational complexity, the message is clear: control comes from connected workflows, not more handoffs. Journal publishing is becoming structurally harder to manage. Rising submission volumes, tighter publication timelines, growing compliance requirements, fragmented workflows, disconnected systems, and multiple operational partners are increasing complexity across the publishing lifecycle. As scholarly publishing evolves, there is growing recognition that operational integration matters just as much as operational excellence. This is where OneFlo comes in. OneFlo is built around a simple idea: journal publishing operations should function as one connected system rather than a series of disconnected stages and handoffs. From submission and peer review through production and publication, the goal is to create a more integrated operational model with: 👉 Unified workflow visibility across the manuscript lifecycle 👉 Better coordination between editorial, peer review, and production operations 👉 AI-assisted workflow orchestration and automation 👉 Faster turnaround times and reduced operational friction 👉 Greater transparency and performance visibility 👉 Editorial independence combined with operational integration The future of publishing operations may not lie in managing more vendors and systems, but in building more connected, accountable, and intelligent publishing infrastructure.
