A key step in this direction is the IndiaAI Mission, approved on March 7, 2024, with a substantial outlay of ₹10,371.92 crore. The mission spans critical pillars of the AI ecosystem, including compute infrastructure, innovation centres, datasets platforms, application development, future skills, and startup financing—creating a holistic framework to drive AI-led growth. To ensure effective implementation, the government regularly evaluates digital adoption across MSMEs through studies conducted with industry and research bodies. Additionally, NITI Aayog’s Output-Outcome Monitoring Framework serves as a structured mechanism to assess impact and progress. Together, these efforts aim to build a digitally empowered MSME sector aligned with India’s broader vision of a technology-driven economy. #IndiaAI #MSME #DigitalTransformation #ArtificialIntelligence #TechPolicy #Innovation #StartupEcosystem #NITIAayog #DigitalIndia

Nearly all repairs on the subsea cables carrying India’s international traffic depend on a handful of foreign-owned specialist ships and consortia, which must navigate conflict-prone chokepoints like the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz. Any damage in these waters could leave India queued behind other markets for scarce global repair capacity, stretching outages and raising costs. This dependence is no longer a mere operational issue; it is a strategic vulnerability that directly touches digital sovereignty, cloud services, financial markets, and data-heavy industries. Industry voices are urging New Delhi to treat subsea cable maintenance as critical infrastructure, push diversified routes away from volatile corridors, and back domestic repair capability through public–private investment before the next major disruption hits. #DigitalInfrastructure #SubseaCables #Telecom #IndiaInternet #TechSovereignty #WestAsia #NetworkResilience #DataEconomy #Connectivity #Geopolitics

  • 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐄𝐂𝐌𝐒 𝐩𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧, 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐞𝐬 The government has signalled a sharper push toward quality and design-led manufacturing under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw warned that disbursements could be halted if beneficiaries fail to invest in product design, adopt Six Sigma standards, and build local capabilities. With a 15-day deadline issued, companies—including those represented by ICEA—are being asked to align with a more integrated, self-reliant electronics ecosystem that prioritises design, talent development, and domestic sourcing. This comes even as MeitY has approved 75 projects with investment commitments exceeding ₹61,000 crore, surpassing the scheme’s initial target. The message is clear: scale alone is not enough—quality, precision, and innovation will define eligibility going forward. As India deepens its electronics manufacturing ambitions, the shift from assembly-led growth to design-driven value creation is becoming non-negotiable. #ECMS #ElectronicsManufacturing #MakeInIndia #Semiconductors #DesignInIndia #MeitY #SixSigma #AtmanirbharBharat #PLI #ManufacturingIndia

Airtel contributed around ₹9,200 crore, while Tata Teleservices paid over ₹4,000 crore, in line with the Supreme Court’s staggered repayment schedule ahead of the March 31 deadline. The payments signal the resumption of a significant financial obligation that continues to weigh heavily on telecom operators’ balance sheets. Despite these payments, Airtel’s AGR liability still exceeds ₹30,000 crore, with interest and penalties continuing to accrue. Industry calls for reassessment—especially to achieve parity with the relief extended to Vodafone Idea—have not found favour with the government, which has reiterated its strict adherence to court-mandated dues. The development underscores ongoing financial stress in the sector and the policy rigidity shaping its future trajectory. #TelecomIndia #AGR #BhartiAirtel #TataTeleservices #DoT #TelecomPolicy #IndiaTelecom #IndustryUpdate

  • Telecommunications networks has long been seen as the backbone of the Digital Economy. But now, the Telecom industry must confront a new strategic question: how green is the network powering that future? In my latest article for Communications Today — “Greening the Network: Why Telecom’s Sustainability Moment Has Arrived” — I examine why sustainability is moving from the margins of telecom strategy to the centre. This is no longer just about ESG reporting. It is about cost, resilience, regulatory expectations, investor confidence, and future-readiness. As networks become denser, more software-driven, and more energy-intensive, the industry’s next phase of leadership will depend not just on connectivity delivered, but on how efficiently and sustainably that connectivity is built and operated. For India in particular, this conversation is timely. The scale of telecom expansion, 5G rollout, and Digital demand makes sustainability an urgent strategic imperative. The Telecom sector has a dual responsibility: reduce its own footprint and enable other industries to decarbonise through digital connectivity. I’m sharing the article link here and would be glad to hear how others in the ecosystem see this shift https://lnkd.in/g2ikyMVV #Telecom #GreenNetworks #Sustainability #5G #ESG #NetZero #EnergyEfficiency #TelecomTransformation #DigitalInfrastructure #India #ClimateAction #RenewableEnergy #FutureOfTelecom Neha Arora Rathor Anju Arora ADI Media Pvt. This marks a transition from a soft-regulation approach to enforceable compliance, requiring companies like Meta, Google, and X to act on directions related to content moderation, misinformation, deepfakes, and online safety within defined timelines. The move reflects growing concerns over emerging digital risks and the need for faster, more accountable responses from intermediaries. A key implication lies in the potential loss of ‘safe harbour’ under Section 79 of the IT Act if platforms fail to comply. This could expose them to direct liability for user-generated content, fundamentally altering platform responsibilities in India. With stakeholder consultations open until April 14, 2026, the proposal signals a tightening of the regulatory environment that balances accountability, platform autonomy, and free expression. #DigitalRegulation #ITRules2021 #SafeHarbour #ContentModeration #IndiaTechPolicy #MeitY #PlatformGovernance #DigitalIndia

The ITU-APT Foundation of India (IAFI) has urged the Department of Telecommunications ( DOT ) to expedite in-principle approvals for NGSO (Non-Geostationary Orbit) satellite communication services. ⏳ Prolonged delays in clearances continue to impede sectoral growth and delay service rollouts, despite strong and growing momentum for satellite broadband in India. Shri Bharat B Bhatia, President, ITU-APT Foundation of India, emphasized: “The industry momentum for satellite broadband in India is strong; however, delays in principal clearances are holding back progress. These approvals are foundational, and delays at this stage impact the entire rollout pipeline. A predictable and time-bound process is essential for India to keep pace globally.” 📰 This news is widely covered by Communications Today:🔗 https://lnkd.in/g9KMdYaA #IAFI #SatelliteCommunications #NGSO #TelecomPolicy #DigitalIndia #Broadband #SpaceTech #IndiaTech Bharat B Bhatia Ashish Garg (he/him) Ashwani Kumar Sendil Kumar, Ph.D Punit Rathod, PhD Revathi Mannepalli Gulab Chand Mrunmaya Kumar Pattanaik Jitendra Singh Rajesh Kumar Pathak Shampa Bahadur Ashwani Kumar Cristian L. The payment, covering licence fees and spectrum usage charges, is the first of six annual instalments and represents about one-fifth of its total liability, which has risen to over ₹40,000 crore with interest. Airtel has sought a reassessment of dues similar to Vodafone Idea, whose liabilities were recalculated following a Supreme Court order, but the government has indicated such relief is case-specific. Despite the burden, Airtel remains financially strong, with ₹55,300 crore in operating free cash flow and around 40% market share. Meanwhile, Tata Teleservices is also set to pay nearly ₹10,000 crore by the deadline, with non-compliance risking contempt of court. The sector now enters a phase of renewed cash outflows after years of regulatory relief. #Airtel #AGRdues #TelecomIndia #TataTeleservices #VodafoneIdea #DoT #Spectrum #TelecomPolicy #IndiaTelecom #5G #IndustryNews

Years of tender disputes and the decision to back an indigenous 4G stack meant BSNL arrived late to 4G, just as Jio and Airtel were scaling nationwide 5G. Since BSNL’s 5G plans hinge on upgrading this software-defined 4G network, every slip in 4G timelines has pushed its 5G launch window further out and hurt market perception. Telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has now announced plans for 50,000–60,000 additional mobile towers as part of BSNL’s biggest-ever CapEx drive of about ₹20,000 crore, aimed at building a robust, upgradeable 4G footprint and lifting coverage and usage. Operating profit has improved, but with BSNL stuck at single-digit wireless market share in what is effectively a Jio–Airtel duopoly, the real test is speed: turning new sites and a homegrown 4G platform into a credible 5G play before the quality and service gap becomes irreversible. #BSNL #4G #5G #IndianTelecom #DigitalIndia #TelecomPolicy #Capex #NetworkExpansion
