Melanoma is one of the most serious forms of skin cancers, with global cases projected to rise by more than 50% by 2040 according to a study published in JAMA Dermatology. However, the Skin Cancer Foundation states melanoma is highly treatable when detected early, with survival rates exceeding 90% in many early-stage cases. Advances in treatment are also improving outcomes for many patients. Melanoma can begin with subtle changes in the skin. Dermatologists recommend paying attention to the ABCDE signs of melanoma: asymmetry, irregular borders, uneven colour, diameter larger than 6 mm, or an evolving shape or size, itching or bleeding. These signs can help support earlier detection and timely medical attention. Listen to your skin. Notice the changes. Early awareness can help ensure better outcomes. At the Panhellenic Conference on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) in Rhodes, Biocon Greece engaged with gastroenterology experts on the evolving future of IBD care. Between 2018 and 2022, the proportion of Greek IBD patients using biosimilars increased from 33% to 67%, reflecting the growing role of biosimilars in improving healthcare sustainability and access to care. As the burden of chronic autoimmune diseases continues to rise, expanding access to sustainable, long-term IBD care is more essential than ever before.
