  • The Government of India has approved 29 projects worth ₹7,104 crore under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), reinforcing the vision of PM Shri Narendra Modi to build a self-reliant and globally competitive electronics ecosystem. A major highlight is India’s first rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing unit with an investment of ₹700 crore, based entirely on indigenous technology and intellectual property. This marks a significant step toward reducing dependence on concentrated global supply chains and strengthening India’s strategic capabilities in critical minerals and advanced manufacturing. The approved projects span 16 product segments, including lithium-ion cells, flexible PCBs, connectors, and display modules, across eight states, with Karnataka and Maharashtra leading. These investments are expected to generate over 14,000 jobs and drive production worth ₹84,515 crore. The initiative targets achieving 25% domestic demand fulfillment in rare earth magnets, 50% localisation in PCBs, and 61% in lithium-ion batteries. This move aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat, boosting manufacturing, innovation, and employment while positioning India as a key global electronics hub.

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared in the Lok Sabha that India has effectively become “Naxal-free,” marking a significant milestone in the country’s long fight against left-wing extremism. He highlighted that over the past three years, 4,839 Maoists have surrendered, 706 have been neutralised, and 2,218 arrested. The Maoist leadership structure has largely collapsed, with central and state-level committees dismantled and the number of affected districts drastically reduced from 126 earlier to just a handful today. The achievement was attributed to strong political will under PM Shri Narendra Modi, combined with a comprehensive strategy focused on security, development, and governance. Measures included enhanced coordination between security forces, deployment of advanced technology such as drones and satellite tracking, and an all-agency approach involving intelligence and enforcement bodies. Simultaneously, the government expanded infrastructure and welfare initiatives in affected regions building roads, schools, hospitals, mobile towers, and banking networks to eliminate the governance vacuum that once enabled insurgency. The government maintained a firm stance that while those who surrender will be rehabilitated, violence will be met with decisive force. This dual approach of development and security has significantly weakened Naxal influence, restoring stability and enabling democratic participation in previously affected regions.

  • India is proactively managing a potential fertilizer shortfall ahead of the crucial kharif season, demonstrating strategic preparedness amid global disruptions. The country currently holds around 18 million tonnes of fertilizer stock against a requirement of 39 million tonnes, with the gap expected to be bridged by May. Despite supply concerns arising from the West Asia crisis given the region’s significant share in India’s urea, DAP, and LNG imports the government has acted swiftly to stabilise availability through diversified sourcing and efficient stock management. To ensure supply security, India is expanding imports from alternative partners such as Russia, Morocco, Indonesia and others, reducing dependence on traditional Gulf suppliers. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to boost domestic production under the visionary leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi, with fertiliser plants resuming operations and gas supply improving to 75-80%. The government is also encouraging the use of alternative fertilisers and leveraging spot LNG purchases despite higher global prices. These measures reflect a coordinated strategy to safeguard agricultural output, maintain input availability for farmers, and ensure stability in the upcoming sowing season.
