When I look at these engine firing visuals, I don’t just see fire, thrust, or Mach diamonds. I see years of persistence, uncertainty, and a team that kept moving forward despite the odds. A few years ago, this was just an idea - a vision to build reusable rocket technologies from India. Today, watching our BSE-II engine perform exactly as envisioned reflects the power of disciplined engineering, execution, and long-term conviction. Building in space and defence with limited resources is never easy. Every test and every setback has only strengthened our belief in what we are building. Proud of what Team Abyom SpaceTech & Defence is building as we continue advancing indigenous reusable and dual-use technologies for civil and defence applications! #Abyom #ReusableRockets #DeepTech #SpaceTech #Defence
Every propulsion program reaches a stage where testing stops being about “Can it fire?” and starts becoming about “Does it behave exactly as predicted?” The Final Integrated Qualification Firing of our BSE-II engine was one of those moments. This terminal hot fire campaign delivered performance exactly aligned with our analytical predictions, simulation models, and expected operating behaviour developed throughout the program. But BSE-II was never just about a single engine. It was about building the capability to design, test, iterate, and validate Reusable Propulsion Systems completely in-house as a team. Over the course of this campaign, we strengthened not only the engine itself, but also the engineering processes, end-to-end infrastructure, control systems, testing workflows, and propulsion validation capabilities required for reusable launch systems. With the successful completion of the BSE-II campaign, our focus now advances toward the next phase of the AbyoKalaM Cryogenic series and our Reusable Rocket prototype development program, alongside dual-use technologies for civil and defence applications. #Abyom #RocketEngineering #Defence #Engine #ReusableRockets ISRO - Indian Space Research Organization DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India India-DST Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus IN-SPACe Jainul Indian Institute of Technology, Madras IITM Incubation Cell IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation GUSEC BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus TBI Society (TBIS) Vikas Monica Anuj Technology Development Board PIEDS : Pilani Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Society, BITS Pilani YourStory Media Startup Pedia Startupro.in IADN Centre Prof. V Ramgopal Sanjiv Tamaswati Sachin Arun CA ANAND CA Murtaza Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India

Hyderabad-based Abyom SpaceTech & Defence Pvt. Ltd. has completed the hot-fire test of its BSE-II rocket engine, a key component of its upcoming HOPE (Highly Optimised Propulsion Engineering) vehicle. Founded by Jainul Abedin, Abyom is an emerging spacetech startup headquartered at the BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus. The company is focused on building a full-stack space infrastructure ecosystem, with core emphasis on reusable launch vehicles powered by re-ignitable and throttleable cryogenic engines. Its long-term vision is to enable frequent, affordable, and on-demand access to space, catering to both commercial and defence applications. Abyom’s product portfolio spans multiple verticals, including small, medium, and sounding reusable launch vehicles, along with rocket engine test facilities designed for performance validation and R&D. These systems are being developed to support missions ranging from satellite deployment in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to deep-space and defence-oriented applications. The recent BSE-II engine test marks a crucial step in the company’s Flight Ready Engine (FRE) program and the broader HOPE vehicle roadmap. According to reports, the test successfully validated several critical propulsion parameters, including precision injection systems, dynamic throttling, and reliable ignition sequences under extreme conditions. The engine operated at around 12 bar chamber pressure and temperatures exceeding 2200°C, closely simulating real-flight environments. Notably, the test demonstrated stable combustion under blow-down feed conditions, a technically demanding scenario that mimics actual propellant behaviour during flight. Engineers also optimised fuel-oxidiser mixing to improve efficiency and minimise thermal stress, which are key requirements for reusable rocket systems. The observation of expected plume characteristics, including Mach diamond formations, further validated the engine’s supersonic exhaust performance. #startuppedia #startupjourney #startupbusiness

Hyderabad-based Abyom SpaceTech & Defence has successfully tested it's BSE-II Engine for HOPE Vehicle. The company operates a unique 50 kN capability "Plug & Play" test facility in Hyderabad to test its pressure-fed, liquid ethanol-fueled cryogenic engines. #IADN
As we progress towards our Flight Ready Engine (FRE) & HOPE Vehicle development program, we have successfully executed the BSE-II engine hot fire test campaign. This phase focused on validating key reusability technologies - including injection, throttling, and ignition operating at ~12 bar chamber pressure and temperatures exceeding 2200°C. Building on our BSE-I campaign, where we demonstrated India’s first Pintle Injection mechanism, BSE-II takes us a step further with stable combustion under blow-down feed conditions, refined impingement mixing architecture, and expected plume behavior, including Mach diamond formation during firing. The entire testing stack - engine, test bench, control systems, test instrumentation and the DAQ system — has been fully designed and developed in-house by Team Abyom SpaceTech & Defence. This campaign successfully validated combustion stability, chamber pressure targets, and overall integrated system performance. Each step like this strengthens not just our propulsion systems, but also the ecosystem required to build reliable, reusable launch capabilities - contributing to India’s growing strength in Space and Defence.
