The end of one era. The beginning of the next. After four years as Chair of IPSA, Marie Flynn steps down, having done a huge amount to strengthen our organisation and build real momentum for employee share ownership in Ireland. Her tenure saw a return to in-person events following COVID, the establisment of stronger connections across government and industry, the rejuvenation of the SAYE share scheme, and tangeable progress on incetivising Employee Ownership Trusts in Ireland. Peter O'Connor O’Connor now takes on the role of Chair, with Rosaleen Boyle as Vice Chair. Marie will remain a part of our IPSA Council leadership team as we enter a new phase – amid growing recognition of the role employee ownership can play in business succession, wealth participation, employee engagement, and economic resilience. Great piece from Fintan O'Toole in the Irish Times, telling the story of a highly experienced and enormously respected journalist and media figure losing it all because he didn't check his sources. In this case, he'd got his sources via AI, or - rather - AI was his source which compounds what is, basically, a schoolperson error. Two things for me though - first, he apparently wanted to "(explore) the responsible use of AI in newsrooms" and second, he (also apparently) said 'a newsroom that wants to retain credibility must invest in time, verification and scepticism'. Very clearly, you can't have the first without the second and you can't have the second without the involvement of real people. Unfortunately, cost-cutting in the media means AI-driven content generation becomes an attractive option and reductions in real people mean shortcuts when it comes to verification. #aidrivencontent #responsibleuseofai #aiinjournalism https://lnkd.in/dv49wA7A?

Working in Comms is basically Jurassic Park. Somewhere in the organisation, a group of very excited people decide: “We’ve built something amazing.” Comms finds out three days before launch. “Can you just announce it?” And suddenly we’re standing there like Jeff Goldblum, quietly asking: “…should we?” Because here’s how it usually goes: The big reveal happens before anyone’s tested the fences. We launch first, answer questions later. Something wobbles. Everyone turns to comms. “Why are people confused?” “Why is Facebook reacting like that?” “Can you fix it?” We can write the message. We can rewrite the message. We can rewrite the rewrite of the message. What we can’t do is pretend people won’t notice when something doesn’t add up. Comms isn’t there to slow things down. We’re there to make sure the T-Rex doesn’t escape into the comments section. Hold onto your butts. And maybe invite comms into the lab before you switch the power on.
