Subject: Account Locked/Copilot Inactive Despite $40+ Payment and Updated Billing I am experiencing a persistent billing block on my account. Despite updating my billing method and successfully processing a payment of $40+ USD, my GitHub Copilot and other paid features remain disabled. My account dashboard continues to show a "billing issue" or "update billing method" prompt. Context: Payment Status: $40+ USD has been deducted/authorized, but features are still "locked." Steps Taken: Updated payment method (Card/PayPal), cleared browser cache, and re-authenticated in my IDE (VS Code). The Issue: The "Billing Issue" banner persists, and Copilot returns a "Subscription Ended" or "Unauthorized" error in the editor. What I am trying to accomplish: Specific Questions for Support/Community: Stale Invoices: Is it possible there is a secondary overdue invoice (e.g., from Actions or Codespaces usage) that the $40 payment didn't cover, causing the account to remain locked? Sync Delay: Is there currently a known propagation delay (longer than 24 hours) for billing status updates in the 2026 cycle? Manual Reset: Can a staff member verify if my payment is stuck in "Pending" or "Authorized" but not "Cleared" on the GitHub side? Desired Outcome: Immediate Steps You Should Take (The "Why") The "Hidden" Overdue Balance: Sometimes, if you had a previous free trial or used metered services (Actions/Codespaces), your total overdue might be higher than the $40 you paid. Check Settings > Billing & plans > Payment history to see if there is still a red "Unpaid" label on any old invoice. IDE Sign-Out/Sign-In: Your IDE (VS Code/Cursor) often caches the "expired" token. Even if GitHub is fixed, the editor doesn't know. Sign out of GitHub within your editor and sign back in to force a token refresh. Check Spending Limits: If you are using Copilot through an Organization or have metered usage, go to Billing > Cost Management and ensure your "Spending Limit" is not set to $0. If it is $0, even a successful payment won't turn the services back on. |
