Sub-issue cannot be closed via closing keywords

Hi there,
I create some sub-issue from the main issue, when I open a pull request, I use closing keywords "close #{issue_number}", it cannot link to that issue automatically, I still need to link the issue via "Development" part on the pull-request pages.

After this issue been merged, the issue still opened.

Hope this issue could be fixed.

Have the PR merged onto the main branch or another?

The PR merge to another branch dev because I need to gather the data together to the main.
The merging way is like this:
dev/xxxxx -> dev -> main

The docs article Linking a pull request to an issue states that the closing behavior only triggered when the PR targets the default branch.

Your question caught my attention, because I have a very similar expectation with you. Although I expect the issue to be closed with the second PR that targets the default branch, not with the first PR targets dev (in your example). I've created a feature request if you are interested. #178555
