Copilot free trial fails to reset after monthly limit exceeded

Hi,
I started using github copilot on the free tier then i ran out out of tokens and it said i should wait till (October 25, 2025) to continue using the free tier. I waited, and tried it yesterday 25th, it didn't work it kept showing i have to wait for October 25th, Today the 26th i also tried, but to my surprise the message changed to November 25, 2025.

What is going on and how do i fix this, did i do anything wrong?
I can assure you i haven't used it in the past 2 days. Also is their a way to see my token usage?

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I reached my maximum in October. It said the reset would happen on November 7. November 7 came and went without a reset and I have not been able to use any chat prompts at all. Today I fired up VS Code and the reset date is now December 7 while the usage still indicates that I've maxed out. It was NOT reset and I have NOT submitted even one chat prompt.

Quick update - today, 11/9/2025, the reset happened. So I'm not sure if someone read this and manually reset it or if the algorithm is just 48 hours behind, but I got a new set of downs (American football reference there for anyone not familiar).

I'd suggest making two or more GitHub accounts and switching between them for Copilot credits. Or if you're a student, they offer student benefits which might help with this.

Your Copilot free tier has a bug that's hitting tons of users right now. The reset date keeps jumping forward by a month instead of actually resetting - so your October 25th became November 25th. It's a known issue GitHub hasn't fixed yet.

Quick fixes from Reddit:

1. Wait for UTC midnight (5:30 AM IST) - resets happen on UTC time, not your local time​
2. Try this workaround: Go to your GitHub Copilot settings, finish all the tutorial checkboxes, then toggle your Copilot settings off and back on. Wait 24 hours - worked for some people​
3. Multiple accounts trick: Make 2-3 GitHub accounts and switch between them for fresh credits (the workaround you mentioned works)
4. Student benefits: If you're a student, grab the GitHub Student pack - way better limits

Student benefits is the best according to me or just use Cursor or Kiro Ide

Still an ongoing issue, had my reset date jump from Dec. 29th to Jan. 29th with no effect.
