In the latest improvements with Copilot code review, we’ve added a new Copilot code review enterprise and organization setting and Copilot code review is now generally available in Xcode 🎉. Support for Visual Studio, JetBrains, and Eclipse is coming soon!

This helps you catch logic, security, performance, or test gaps early — all without leaving your editor. Request a review from the Copilot chat panel in Xcode to get started.

New enterprise and organization control

We’ve introduced a new setting that gives enterprises and organizations dedicated control over Copilot code review (CCR). You now have clearer, more predictable controls for managing Copilot code review across your enterprise, whether you use it on GitHub, in VS Code, or as part of a standalone Copilot setup.

What’s new

• Independent control: Turn Copilot code review on or off separately from other Copilot features like Copilot chat.
• Seamless transition: By default, CCR follows your existing Copilot setup, so there’s no disruption.
• Public preview option: Users can opt in to try new CCR features early.
• VS Code included: This setting also applies to Copilot code review in Visual Studio Code.
• Available everywhere: The new control is available for both organizations and standalone enterprises (including Copilot-only enterprises without organizations or repositories).
• New block policy: Enterprises can now enforce “Block Copilot code review in all enterprise repositories” to fully disable CCR for all users, including individually licensed Copilot users.

If your enterprise has enabled the Copilot on GitHub.com policy (or sub-policies for preview features), CCR remains on by default. Going forward, it must be managed separately from those policies.

@timrogers Ive been signed up for waitlist since day 1 and our org uses copilot and heavily is looking to adopt AI everywhere and to improve code quality. We are also involved in alot of other feature requests, I see the public preview options to enable this but it doesnt seem to work. Is there a feature flag that just needs to be toggled?

Hey! When you sign up for the waitlist and get approved, is Copilot Code review available for your whole organization, or just for your individual account? And if only the individual account, is it possible to sign up the whole organization to the waitlist?

@christian-andersson , @DanielHC16 , @redveronika I had the same but found it was a mistake on my part.

Signing up to the waitlist shows you as on the waitlist; but per this ticket that's now irrelevant as the feature's generally available.

The fix for me was:

• Browse to my organisation's settings: https://github.com/organizations/MY-ORG-NAME/settings/copilot/policies
• Look at setting Copilot in GitHub.com - for me this was Disabled and greyed out... as it was managed at enterprise level. If you can edit in your org, skip the next step, otherwise do the next step for managing at enterprise level.
• Check your enterprise settings: https://github.com/enterprises/MY-ENTERPRISE-SLUG/settings/copilot?tab=policies
• On the dropdown by Copilot in GitHub.com choose Enabled
• Check the box: Opt in for access to Copilot preview features
• Now this is enabled for your org/enterprise (settings managed at enterprise level will have propogated down to your orgs without you needing to do anything). Users licensed with CoPilot will now see Copilot as a suggested reviewer for any PRs.

@JohnLBevan for us this was not the problem, everything was setup up correctly from our side, after I filed a support ticket to Github, they went in an refreshed the copilot cache for our account, and that solved everything for us.

this is very cool and could be a serious performance booster within our enterprise subscription on many levels! My am really excited about the quality of reviews in my tests 👍 These things we need to roll out deep integration into our processes:

• please add support for Visual Studio plugin
• please add integration into AzureDevOps services

Regarding VS Code:

• This is the most essential feature for me. I want to receive comments and suggestions locally before I open a pull request.
• Within VS code, I tried using the "Copilot Code Review" button on the source control tab, but it usually gives "no suggestions to give" for the 17 files I've changed.
• If I execute multiple times (to overcome the previous issue), I can get comments, but they are always on the latest file I've opened (in the staged files).
• However, if I go into some of these files, select the whole code, and click "Review using Copilot," I receive at least five comments.

As a suggestion and future improvements for the VS Code:

• Please add a function to analyze code that has already been committed or pushed, allowing it to "analyze everything between HEAD and some branch."

Regarding the UI:

• I still need to assign the Copilot user to my pull request, but I likely won't, as I anticipate too much unnecessary noise.
• My excitation is about noise comments and having to delete them manually in case they are irrelevant.

Suggestion for UI:

• It would be perfect if the "Chat with Copilot" had some "shortcuts" or "default prompts" for code review, code simplification, and so on available straight as comments on the chat rather than comments on the PR directly.

It looks like it doesn’t support reviewing my *.swift files, so I can’t use it for my indie iOS app PRs. Is that right?

Docs here show swift isn't supported. Supported langs:

C#, Go, Java, JavaScript, Markdown, Python, Ruby, TypeScript

Definitely would like wider language support! The indie app community in particular is big. Swift and Kotlin support would be great.

And also code review comments in respect of the whole repo code in the main branch also.

Overall, i found the review to be okish, and it did highlight a point i didn't consider before.

Now the problem is - it finds this in one occurance, but that same file had the same exact access problem twice - which copilot somehow overlooked.
Were i not reviewing my own PR and knowing what i'm doing (or rely on copilot too much) - this would mean i'll be missing a key problem.

I also find the review comment of "Evaluated as low risk" a bit odd - not necessarily the comment, but that it suggests that it skipped review of these files completely.
This may be fine for a .md file (it's documentation after all) - maybe even for tests (tests can still contain slight bugs causing test flakyness).

But in my case, it skipped 2 key (key, as in important / central to the project) .py files with "Evaluated as low risk" - skipping review completely.
I suspect the files are too big for copilot to review (both skipped files are over 1000 lines) - but that shouldn't mean they're "low risk" - rather "high risk but context window exceeded".
Being honest here (couldn't analyze) would be WAY better than "Evaluated as low risk" - which is either a false errormessage - or a completely failed "risk analysis".

With the recent deprecation announcement. I have an org with GitHub Copilot enterprise. The Feature you're deprecating is it the "Custom Instruction" that is set at the ORG level? When I go into settings -> copilot -> Custom Instructions are you removing that in favor of the individual copilot-instructions.md file? Just want to be sure I have this clearly because you mention "coding guidelines" and I can't find that feature (maybe it's because it was private preview and I wasn't invited.) We use Custom Instructions to enforce guidelines across everything in the org, would be disappointed to see that go.

feature request: please add an option to make copilot comments to be pending by default.

review comments are currently hit-or-miss, and unhelpful ones create a lot of notification spam for PR author and reviewers. It would make the copilot review process much more useful if user could audit comments before they are sent.

In my settings, “Automatically request Copilot code review” is set to Enabled, but the main “Copilot code review” toggle still shows Disabled and I cannot enable it.

Is there a way to disable specific responses in org settings? Some engineers are not security focused enough to know accepting this suggestion is an absolutely terrible idea.

I want to thank git and all the people who help me I've had 3 accounts. The first one I turned in all my data because I was so frustrated about being hacked on telegram.
