🇫🇷 New stage in Veolia's Tour de France for #water, in Villefranche-sur-Saône, north of Lyon, a model of a responsibly managed region committed to innovative and sustainable water management. Combining technological innovation, local development and environmental protection to benefit citizens is possible, as demonstrated by the long-standing #collaboration between the Villefranche Beaujolais Saône urban community (72,000 inhabitants) and Veolia: a relationship of trust since 1883, one of the oldest in #France. Today, one of the greatest challenges facing cities in terms of water quality and public health is that of #micropollutants and #PFAS. And each territory requires its own specific, tailor-made technological solution, to guarantee clean water for everyone. The water crisis is real, as confirmed by a French survey conducted by the Terram Institute, which sheds light on citizens' perception of the water situation in France. However, the French have confidence in the water industry (60%), and the majority are in favor of innovative solutions to turn these challenges into opportunities. 💡 What is Tour de France for water? Initiated by Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO of Veolia, this innovative project is a way of raising public awareness and fostering #dialogue on the issue of water, which has become a vital challenge and a major concern for citizens. The aim of this unprecedented initiative is to meet citizens, local elected representatives and industries, and to jointly develop sustainable #solutions for preserving water in the face of climate change. #EcologicalTransformation

🇦🇺 Focus on sustainable desalination in #Australia! For over 20 years, Australia has relied on reverse osmosis desalination to secure its drinking water supply. Globally, only 1% of the energy used for #desalination comes from renewable sources, but Australia is leading the way! In Western Australia, all new desalination plants are required to use green energy. The Gold Coast and Sydney desalination plants, constructed, designed and operated by Veolia, meet fluctuating demands while combining decarbonized production, energy efficiency, and environmental preservation: 🔹 The Sydney facility power needs are fully supplied by one of New South Wales’ largest wind farms. 🔹 The Gold Coast plant is also advancing its decarbonization efforts with the installation of a solar photovoltaic system. Both plants also maximize resource recovery: they are equipped with systems that recover up to 97% of the energy from brine flows (the by-product of desalination). Additionally, process water undergoes appropriate treatment before being discharged into the ocean in a way that ensures the protection of the natural environment. 🌏 As Australia prepares for multi-decade mega-droughts, desalination is solidifying its role as a strategic pillar in the country’s freshwater mix — alongside treated wastewater reuse and conventional water capture and treatment solutions. 🔗 Learn more about desalination in Australia in our Planet magazine: https://lnkd.in/eyg7USt8 Veolia Australia and New Zealand © Médiathèque VEOLIA - Alexis Duclos

🇴🇲 In the Sur desalination plant in the Sultanate of Oman, Veolia develops major technological #innovation to reduce #desalination ground footprint: the Barrel™. This model of efficiency takes the form of a cylindrical vessel 10 meters long and 2 meters in diameter housing membranes and optimizing the reverse osmosis water filtration process. Capable of producing 5,000 cubic meters of water a day, the Barrel™ uses digital technologies to track membrane performance. Some key figures on the Barrel™ significant advantages: ➡️ A 3% to 5% reduction in the average cost of a desalination plant ➡️ Energy savings of 1.5% ➡️ A 25% smaller footprint than conventional systems The Barrel™ marks a major step forward in terms of optimizing the #performance and lowering the cost of desalination plants, giving Veolia a genuine competitive advantage in the booming desalination market. 🔗 Learn more on our new Planet magazine focusing on sustainable desalination: https://lnkd.in/et3MarXi Veolia Water Technologies

A look back at our Thema event in #Oman! An exclusive conference where Veolia presented its global ambitions and perspectives in #desalination.💧 🗣️ "#Water has become the challenge of the century. This is a direct consequence of climate change that we see on water. We are enabling lives, we are powering industries, we are ensuring health. Desalination in that world is not only a technology, it is a lifeline, really. Minus 85% of energy in the last 20 years, minus 90% of costs, which has helped with more affordability. And we want to maintain this in the next few years, not only in the Middle East, but everywhere in the world.” - Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO of Veolia Discover more about sustainable desalination 👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ec6uyP3B Veolia Water Technologies Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions

How do we combat water stress by desalinating seawater? 💧 Powered by local renewable energies such as wind and solar, #seawater #desalination is becoming a sustainable low-carbon solution. It is an alternative to provide access to fresh water in arid regions. The water is separated from the salt and impurities using two main technologies: 🔹 Thermal desalination, which transforms the water into salt-free steam, 🔹 and reverse osmosis, which retains the salt from water by membrane filtration. Digital innovation and AI are revolutionizing performance in desalination plants. They make predictive maintenance of installations possible, and improve the energy efficiency of seawater desalination systems. Desalination stands as a vital solution in the fight against #water scarcity, particularly for coastal regions!
