Safety does not start in a critical moment. It starts with understanding the driver. Our #InCabinMonitoring assesses the driver’s condition in real time and provides support before attention declines or situations become unsafe. The focus is on prevention rather than reaction. The technology adapts to individual drivers and driving contexts instead of relying on rigid rules. This makes InCabin Monitoring a key enabler for #AutomatedDriving at levels 3 and 4. It also prepares vehicles for future challenges such as detecting impairment caused by fatigue, substances, or medication. If you want to dive deeper into the topic, our experts Pascal Lipka and Marko Gustke are happy to answer your questions and share further insights. 🎥 Watch the video to learn more and then get in touch with us!

We see it every day: #autonomous systems don’t fail because sensors exist – they fail when sensors lose their view. Rain, splashing water, dust or snow can impair cameras, IR cameras and LiDAR within minutes. That’s why we treat #SensorCleaning as a core element of the system, not as an add‑on. Our modular solutions combine #AI‑based contamination detection with targeted, automated cleaning to keep sensors available under changing environmental conditions, on‑road and off‑road, in #ADAS and #AutonomousDriving applications alike. "Identifying functionally relevant soiling reliably and responding appropriately is key. To achieve this, we combine AI‑based detection with system design and engineering expertise," says Kai-Alexander Marx, Manager Sensor Cleaning Systems. The modular platform can be adapted to different vehicle architectures and sensor setups – from passenger cars to agricultural machinery and unmanned systems operating in harsh environments such as #Agriculture or #Defense. For us, sensor availability is not just a functional requirement. It’s a system‑level task spanning architecture, integration and validation. "Sensor availability is a system‑level issue. Sensor cleaning is part of the architecture, integration and validation and is relevant for many of our projects," says Sebastian Sickert, Development Engineer. Reliable environment perception doesn’t end with sensors and software, it includes the strategy to keep them available, enabled by #SystemsEngineering and #AI.

How can highly automated #shuttles be designed to work in everyday #public transport and meet the #needs of all passengers? We are addressing exactly this question and developing solutions that make autonomous public transport operations practical, understandable, and reliable. One key project in this context is OptiPEx, an European Union initiative funded under Horizon Group Europe with eleven partners from seven countries. Together, we develop and test functions for Level #4 shuttles and tram that make public transport more intuitive, reduce barriers, and improve the passenger experience. The focus is on situations that matter in daily operations: when passengers need assistance, orientation is missing, or quick support is required, especially in scenarios where no staff is present in the vehicle and responsibilities shift to control centers and service teams. “With OptiPEx, we are shaping the future of mobility step by step to be accessible, comfortable, and usable for everyone,” says Dr. Franziska Schmalfuß, Technical Project Lead at IAV. Specifically, the project addresses support for wheelchair users, passengers with limited mobility, or people traveling with strollers, as well as improved orientation for tourists and visually impaired passengers. At the same time, it enables the detection of situations in which assistance is needed, without compromising privacy. These solutions are tested in four living labs, including three tram systems and one IAV shuttle. Insights from real operational environments feed directly into further development always with passengers, operations, and service staff in mind. Questions about #OptiPEx? Franziska Schmalfuß and Eric Schartmann are happy to connect.

#Autonomous driving is entering a new phase of maturity, and we are actively shaping this development. 🚗🤖 With every technological leap, the requirements for safety, verifiability, and system quality increase. Classic ADAS approaches are no longer sufficient. The use of highly automated functions such as Level 3 and 4 therefore requires robust #verification and #validation. It must be clearly verifiable that the system has been developed correctly and behaves as planned in real traffic. To achieve this, we support manufacturers in improving their existing development and #testing landscapes. Instead of offering a single product, we bring together the essential building blocks: #simulations, data rooms, mixed reality tests, real-world driving, and safety argumentation. 📊🧩 The integration of these elements results in clear and comprehensible documentation that fits seamlessly into our customers' existing processes. Our focus is clearly on #virtualization. It enables reproducible and efficient testing of safety-critical scenarios. Virtual testing goes far beyond what is possible on public roads. 🌐⚙️ Our goal is to make the #safety of autonomous mobility visible and to support manufacturers safely and reliably on their way to series production. 👉 Are you interested in modern verification and validation approaches? Then feel free to contact Marco Wenzel, Daniel Danz, or Marko Gustke directly!

With HyCET, we bring #HydrogenCombustion from engineering to real‑world impact. The project proves that hydrogen combustion is ready for real‑world #HeavyDutyTransport. Two 18‑ton hydrogen-powered trucks have now left the test environment and entered daily logistics operations at DEUTZ and BMW Group. This is a decisive step from development to industrial reality. As general contractor, we connected all pieces of the puzzle: integrating DEUTZ’s hydrogen engines into complete vehicles, aligning powertrain, tank system, software and safety concepts, and securing full road approval. The result is not a prototype, but a robust logistics solution that performs under real operating conditions, built on strong #SystemIntegration expertise. “We see ourselves as a Tech Solution Provider that delivers exactly the solutions our customers need – regardless of the propulsion technology. HyCET shows how we can bring new powertrain concepts from idea to application. The fact that these vehicles are now approved and operating on public roads is a testament to the strong integration capabilities of our powertrain team”, says IAV CEO Joerg Astalosch. HyCET also highlights the importance of thinking propulsion systems holistically, from vehicle and infrastructure to the actual use case in #Logistics. “With deployment in our own internal logistics, we are taking the decisive step from development to real-world application. What matters to us is reliability in day-to-day operations while reducing CO₂ emissions. HyCET proves that hydrogen combustion is a powerful and practical solution for the logistics of tomorrow”, says Bert Van Hasselt, CEO Business Unit NewTech at DEUTZ. Hydrogen combustion can complement battery-electric and fuel cell concepts, especially where high payloads and fast refueling matter. With HyCET, we once again demonstrate our role as an enabler of #FutureMobility and advanced #Powertrain solutions.

Advanced driver assistance systems (#ADAS) are evolving into intelligent learning systems that continuously improve over their lifetime. Proving their safety is therefore no longer a one‑time effort – and increasingly happens virtually. Simulation-based #validation allows us to test system behavior at scale, cover countless scenarios, and build confidence early, long before vehicles enter real-world driving. This is where our engineers and software developers drive the transformation every day. Artificial Intelligence (#AI) plays a dual role in this journey. AI is embedded in modern ADAS functions themselves, enabling perception, decision-making, and learning, and at the same time it reshapes how these systems are developed and validated. From intelligent scenario generation to data-driven #validation and continuous improvement, AI helps us manage #complexity and accelerate development. By combining AI, sensor technology, and virtual validation, we ensure robust, safe performance in the real world, paving the way for the mobility of the future. In our new video 📹, CTO Sebastian Sinning shares insights into how we approach the #safety and validation of complex ADAS systems and why this work is more critical than ever. For all questions, please get in touch!

#Autonomous public transport needs more than vision, it needs production ready technology. This is exactly what we contribute to the Saxon #shuttle project, helping to bring automated vehicles step by step into public transport operations. Saxony’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Dirk Panter, has recently handed over the funding approvals. This marks the start of the next development phase for automated shuttles in #PublicTransport. Together with Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) and further partners from industry and academia, we are working on an integrated overall system for highly automated shuttle buses at #SAE Level4. The goal is to integrate driverless vehicles safely, reliably and scalably into regular operations. As a development partner for automated vehicle platforms, we bring many years of experience in vehicle #Automation, system #Integration and production ready development. The result is a European public transport vehicle solution that fits seamlessly into Leipzig’s public transport ecosystem. Why does this matter? Rising operating costs and a #shortage of drivers make automated shuttles key technology for a futureproof and reliable public transport system, especially as a flexible complement to existing services in #suburban and rural areas. By mid 2028, a functional system is expected to be completed, serving as a blueprint for all of Saxony. This was an important step toward #Autonomous public transport and #Mobility of the future. 👉 Do you have questions or would you like to exchange ideas? Mirko Taubenreuther, Franziska Schmalfuß and Carsten Schröter look forward to the conversation. Feel free to reach out to them directly. Note: This initiative is co-financed by tax revenues based on the budget approved by the Sächsischer Landtag and is also co-financed by the European Union.
