It was a pleasure to attend EUBCE - European Biomass Conference & Exhibition 2026 this week and join discussions on the future of bioenergy. It was lovely to reconnect with peers across the energy sector and get a closer look at some exciting biotech innovation. I also joined the ABATE - Advanced Bio-based Refinery Intermediates project’s workshop on transforming residual biomass into low-carbon fuels for aviation and maritime transport. The session began with 2050 goals, identified what should be achieved by 2035, and considered the actions needed today. Discussing these questions with practitioners and academics made the exchange feel refreshingly frank and grounded, especially as the conversation moved beyond the usual policy and funding talking points. Attended the 2026 European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE), May 19-22, at The Hague, NL. It was my first EUBCE participation and presented a poster. Participants from 52 countries including 28 from the United States. Learnt a lot about the European biomass projects. The conference has a concluding remarks session capturing the highlights from the 3-days conference providing a great perspective and European vision. EUBCE - European Biomass Conference & Exhibition It was inspiring to learn about India's recent biofuels initiatives which got kudos in the concluding remarks for its rapid progress. One clear message was Biofuels are MUST for any country for their energy security and may see the boom again. Always a great pleasure meeting Yukihiko Matsumura at the conferences. He was recognized for his more than 3 decades of contributions in biofuels research in Japan. CEE Department at Old Dominion University

Excited to share my experience at EUBCE - European Biomass Conference & Exhibition 2026 in The Hague! During the conference, I had the opportunity to present my research at Università degli Studi di Milano on novel applications of microbial lipids and their potential in sustainable bioprocesses. I was also honored to chair the session “Bioprocess Innovations for Biomass Valorization”, discussing innovative strategies and emerging technologies for biomass valorization together with academics and industry professionals from across the field. On May 21st, our colleague Tommaso Nieri had the opportunity to attend the EUBCE - European Biomass Conference & Exhibition in The Hague, where he delivered a visual poster presentation. I am happy to share that I had the privilege of participating in the 34th edition of the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition #EUBCE 2026, held in #The #Hague, #Netherlands, from 19–22 May 2026. The conference provided an excellent platform for interactions among #academia, #industry, and #government organizations. It covered six major themes: #Biomass conversion for bioenergy, #Biomass conversion to intermediate bioenergy carriers and sustainable biofuels, #Sustainable resource for decarbonising the economy, #Sustainability impacts and policies, #Biomass conversion to the bio based products amd chemicals, amd #Biomass, bio-based products and bioenergy integration. I presented our research work, carried out in collaboration with M.Tech. student Digvijaysinh Kadu, titled:“Numerical and Experimental Investigation of an Adsorption-Based Purification of Biomass-Derived Syngas for Hydrogen Production.” I am sincerely thankful to our postdoctoral advisor, Prof. Sandeep Kumar, Head of the Department, Department of Energy Science & Engineering, IIT Bombay, Prof. Manaswita Bose, and the Dean #FA Office, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, for continuous support in this regard. Last week I had the oportunity to attend and present my work at EUBCE - European Biomass Conference & Exhibition , presenting my poster titled "Valorisation of Almond Shell Biomass into Battery-Grade Graphite via Low-Temperature Catalytic Graphitzation". This research focuses on developing a sustainable route to convert agricultural waste into high-value materials for energy storage applications. The project was funded by FEDER funds from the Generalitat Valenciana (IMDEEA/2025/35). It was a great experience to learn about the latest advances in biomass applications and exchange ideas with researchers and professionals.
