Next-generation precision agriculture: Dynamic regulation of photosynthesis in light-acclimated organisms
À propos
DREAM is an EU-funded project reducing the environmental impact of agriculture through tailored technological solutions that help plants grow more efficiently in controlled environments. Using innovations in lighting, scientific instruments, and data processing, the project fosters precision agriculture in optimized and controlled environments such as greenhouses, vertical farms, and indoor gardens. DREAM uses a three-steps approach: - Novel plant sensing methods to help design plant-specific irrigation protocols - Protocol validation in diverse settings and extensive community-driven data acquisition - Enhanced lighting efficiency via dynamic modulation The project is coordinated by the Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe EIC Pathfinder programme under grant agreement number 101046451. Our project partner, Sony CSL (Paris), will be hosting Faisal Sani Bala next Wednesday 29 April for their weekly seminars! He will explore sinusoidally modulated fluorescence imaging (SMFI) for non-invasive detection of phosphorus stress in plants. Unlike conventional fluorescence methods, SMFI captures time-resolved responses under controlled modulation, reducing dependence on dark adaptation. Faisal specialises in imaging systems, embedded electronics, and data-driven signal analysis. His work focuses on developing non-invasive sensing technologies for biological systems, combining hardware design with signal processing and machine learning. Join at 2 PM CET https://lnkd.in/dFpaqW2t

What if plants could tell us exactly what they need? After four years of research, our #EUfunded project has developed new instruments and protocols that read the photosynthetic state of plants in real time, turning their responses to light into a measurable fingerprint of their needs. Our goal is to help growers in controlled environments like greenhouses use light, water, and nutrients more efficiently, reducing waste and environmental impact. Watch our wrap up video to find out how our team is bringing precision science to sustainable agriculture. 🌱 Learn more our project at https://dream-eic.eu/ This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe EIC - European Innovation Council’s Pathfinder programme under grant agreement No 101046451

Our latests press release is out! In it, we cover the recent work of our Paris-based partners on how “Single-cell imaging and machine learning reveal hidden coordination in algae’s response to light stress”. The team included researchers from Ecole normale supérieure in collaboration with Sony CSL (Paris) and the Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology (IBPC) Paris, France. DREAM partner Ian Coghill (Département de Chimie, Ecole normale supérieure, Paris) and colleagues have published a preprint on the use of spatiotemporal light modulation to enhance fluorescence imaging. 🔬 “We anticipate that this work will serve as a foundation for future spatiotemporal methodologies in which light functions both as a probe and perturbation tool.” These methods, along with a fully documented custom microscope, should be easy to adopt by other labs. Build documentation, software, and data are publicly available at Optica Open. 🔓 https://lnkd.in/dzZmn8m8 Authors are Fivos Pham, Mrinal Mandal, Alienor Lahlou, Yuriy Shpinov, Isabelle Aujard, Marie-Aude Plamont, Jacques Fattaccioli, Thomas le saux, and Ludovic Jullien. #EUeic #OpenHardware #Microscopy

Last summer, we had the pleasure of having OpenFlexure present their open-source microscopy system at our summer school. It was heartening to see other efforts to open up imaging to more people. Our EIC - European Innovation Council project has also developed an open-hardware and affordable macroscope. 🔬🔓 It can be used in plant science, fluorescent proteins, and optoelectronic devices. Instructions for building it and open-source software are available at https://lnkd.in/dhm3avUK The open access article is available at https://lnkd.in/d9pf2gxw https://lnkd.in/drPAR3Q
