  • Today, our shareholders gathered at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki for Outokumpu’s Annual General Meeting. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Ahead of the AGM, shareholders heard directly from our President & CEO Kati ter Horst, President BA Ferrochrome Martti Sassi and SVP Operations Tornio Jari Tikkanen in a discussion event focused on the global economy, our growth strategy EVOLVE and the future of the circular ecosystem in Kemi-Tornio. The conversation highlighted how side stream opportunities have the potential to strengthen both sustainability and long-term competitiveness for us and our partners.

  • Outokumpu’s Kemi mine in Northern Finland is taking a major step toward a more circular mining industry. Together with the EU-funded Lapland Mining Hub (Lapin liitto / The Regional Council of Lapland) and Business Kemi - Digipolis, we are launching an extensive, data-driven circular economy ecosystem to transform mine side streams from waste into valuable resources. The goal is to build a long-term industrial model for utilizing side streams and transforming them into new business opportunities. With nearly 3 million tonnes of waste rock and tailings generated annually, the Kemi mine has significant potential for new applications, which could include: 🏗️ Low-carbon cement alternatives 🌱 Soil improvement ♨️ Heat storage ⚒️ Mineral recovery “Utilizing mine side streams is no longer just an environmental act — it’s becoming a key part of competitiveness and security of supply. As the EU’s only chromium mine, Kemi has a strategic role in strengthening mineral self-sufficiency and a low-emission value chain,” says Martti Sassi, President, Business Area Ferrochrome at Outokumpu. Thank you for having me on the panel of Handelsblatt’s Future of #Steel conference, Marlien Dunkley, #hbstahl. It was refreshing to discuss with my co-panelists Julia Metz from Agora Industry, GMH Gruppe CEO Dr. Alexander Becker and Kevin Knitterscheidt, Handelsblatt. Our alignment was clear: Germany and Europe must decisively safeguard their industrial and technological strengths. With confidence we must invest in front-runners in innovation and and pomote the growth of strategic partnerships - actions which secures a more resilient and sovereign Europe. There are concrete steps which can go a long way towards these goals: 🔵 Ensuring the reliability and effectiveness in climate and trade policy instruments 🔵 Building predictability in the design of energy pricing frameworks 🔵 Protecting our customers through demand stimulation in downstream markets 🔵 Strengthening the supply security for critical raw materials, alongside their decarbonization for example through sustainably mined chromium All of this must be driven forward with purpose and innovation to enhance value creation across the value chain. #StainlessSteel #Outokumpu #ChooseStainless #decarbonization Photo courtesy of Handelsblatt & Bildschön.

  • In the realm of high-end bar design, where aesthetics and functionality converge, Temoco has emerged as a leading bar and restaurant furniture provider in the Nordics - using Outokumpu stainless steel as a key ingredient. Temoco's designs, which elevate the entire bar experience, leverage stainless steel's strengths through minimalist forms – picture shelves that seem to float effortlessly and bar tops that appear impossibly thin yet remain remarkably sturdy. Our stainless steel is ideally suited to the hygienic demands of a bar setting, and the resistance to corrosion is invaluable in an environment prone to spills and splashes. Temoco exploits this quality to craft seamless surfaces, eliminating the tiny crevices where dirt and grime can accumulate and ensuring their pieces retain a pristine appearance over years of use.
