Inkless clusters are ready for Aiven Cloud. In the current 'Kafka-compatible' market, many engineers are forced to manage multiple clusters for them to balance performance and cost. Inkless fixes this. As an open-source fork of Apache Kafka, Inkless introduces a composable design that allows you to run classic and diskless topics side-by-side in the same cluster, powered by Open Source innovations like KRaft, Tiered Storage, and KIP-1150. The engineering impact is significant: Inkless allows you to scale and rebalance up to 10x faster than Apache Kafka, while slashing recovery times for node and disk failures by up to 90%. By utilising unlimited storage without the need for pre-provisioning, you can eliminate disk-related bottlenecks After maturing in our BYOC offering, Inkless clusters are ready for Aiven Cloud. You can leverage 100% Kafka API compatibility and the performance benefits of KIP-1150 today. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/ecYVYYaY #Kafka #ApacheKafka #Disklesskafka

How do you protect customer data from your own team while still running and improving your web application? That was the challenge Tim Schilling, our guest for Episode 4 of Elephant in the Room, faced with Djangonaut Space, a mentorship program focused on welcoming new contributors into the Django ecosystem. The application process requires collecting personal information, but reviewers and developers should not have access to identifying details. In this episode, we’ll unpack the privacy problem and walk through a practical solution we designed using PostgreSQL Anonymizer and Django middleware. The result is an approach that anonymizes sensitive data without breaking workflows or slowing development. Watch the episode to learn how to build stronger privacy protections into your architecture while keeping your team productive: https://lnkd.in/emf4uNFA

We’ve been listening to our customers, and are excited to share that we've released our new high availability architecture in limited availability (LA). When enabled at the project or organisation level, it becomes the default for all new Aiven for PostgreSQL services. The means faster backups, quicker startups, shorter maintenance windows, and stronger protection against network outages, helping your services stay up and running when it matters most. You can try it out today for new services, with migration of existing services becoming available later when the service becomes generally available (GA). https://lnkd.in/eD3GRUHJ

Huge congratulations to our Kafka competition winners and thank you to all the incredible participants. This is just the beginning, with our Open Source Awards and a new PostgreSQL-focused competition on the way, we’re doubling down on making it simple to build with Aiven. Two winners. 2 x $5,000 prizes. Incredible technical prowess. 💪 When we launched our Free Tier Kafka competition, we wanted to see what happens when developers have the right tools and no friction. The results were so good that we chose two winners instead of one. Congratulations to Yusuf Ganiyu for his real-time multiplayer game "Chicken Invaders Kafka" and Kuba Nowakowski for his "Kafka + Flink Delivery Notifications" blueprint. Both projects showed us exactly what we value at Aiven: solid engineering and a commitment to open source. Honorable mentions to Jaime López (AIS Guardian: a real-time maritime security app processing 5,000 vessel signals/second), Dan Cytermann (a Kafka-backed walkie-talkie for Android), Ben Gamble (IRC relay combining Kafka, PostgreSQL, and Valkey), Daniel De Burgo (Kafka meets IoT), Naci Simsek (MyGameDay: sports analytics with Kafka, Flink, and ML), and Damian Bemben (city planning with a £6.80 microcontroller, Kafka, and GenAI). What is next: We are starting the Open Source Awards as a regular program to celebrate your builds. A follow-up competition is launching soon with a focus on PostgreSQL and the full Aiven Free Tier offering. We are refining how we support the community to ensure building is always simple and accessible. Congrats to the winners and thank you to everyone who participated. #OpenSource #ApacheKafka #PostgreSQL #Aiven #SoftwareEngineering Thanks team 🦀 🚀

As it’s Valentine’s Day, we decided to do what every serious data company should do. Write the best (possibly cringiest) pick up lines we could think of for developers. Are you OpenSearch? Because I can Lucene a life together Are you MySQL? A Cutie that Is Dear to me Are you Kafka? We've been messaging all day Are you ClickHouse? You keep the TableEngine of my heart beating Are you PostgreSQL? I'd never query our relationship after all these years Which one has your heart? Or do you think can you do better? Comment below!

We’re excited to share that Aiven for OpenSearch now brings a whole new level of performance, efficiency and search power to your managed search workloads with the release of v3.3. Built upon Apache Lucene 10, this upgrade reduces search latency and delivers faster queries with smarter storage and enhanced vector search. If you care about pushing the limits of search performance and getting the most out of your data platform, read the full blog post below for a deeper look at what’s new and how to get started. https://lnkd.in/eTG3Um7i

Viktor Kessler is both co-founder of Vakamo, a company specialising in governance for Iceberg, and a major contributor to Lakekeeper, an open-source Iceberg REST catalog. His contributions to the Iceberg aren’t limited to pull requests: Viktor is also the organiser of the Apache Iceberg Meetup Europe and hosted some fantastic events in 2025 that brought the Iceberg community together all over Europe from Dublin to Vilnius. In this episode we’ll be picking Viktor’s brains about Iceberg Rest and his experiences working with Iceberg: as a founder building a business on Open Source, as a contributor pushing new features, and as a community organiser.

We loved working with the team at Katana Cloud Inventory on this latest case study. It was rewarding to see firsthand how they are transforming the way e-commerce and retail SMBs handle their data. By rebuilding their platform with Aiven for Apache Kafka and ClickHouse, they’ve shown how the right data infrastructure can unlock both performance and meaningful business impact. The shift delivers analytics queries that run in seconds instead of hours, real-time inventory visibility across channels, and a scalable foundation for AI-driven innovation.
