The largest electric bicycle company in the US, Lectric eBikes, has just hit a pair of dizzying milestones. The much-vaunted e-bike maker reached $1 billion in sales on its e-commerce platform yesterday and sold its 750,000th electric bicycle. And perhaps even more stunning, it landed those two feats on the same day.

The US electric two-wheeler market has no shortage of high-powered electric motorcycles and moped-style e-bikes. But if you’re looking for something in between – a practical, street-legal electric scooter built for everyday transportation rather than weekend thrills – your options are surprisingly limited.

That’s why the new HMP Lightning MK.II caught my attention.

Juiced Bikes is one of the most recognizable names in the history of electric bikes in North America. Long before e-bike classes and speed limits became commonplace, the company built a loyal following with powerful bikes that blurred the line between bicycles and mopeds. But after the brand collapsed in 2024, many assumed Juiced was destined to become little more than a nostalgic footnote.

Now it’s back under new ownership, and after spending several days riding the new Juiced Scrambler alongside Juiced’s fearless new leader Austin Gomes, I came away thinking the company is now going beyond trying to recapture the past. Instead, it’s trying to redefine what a legal, street-ready moped-style e-bike can be.

For many parents, the idea of buying an electric bike for their kid might initially seem unnecessary. After all, didn’t we all grow up pedaling regular bikes without a motor?

But the more you look at today’s generation of young riders – and the role that e-bikes can play in getting them outside – the more compelling the argument becomes. Huffy is betting on exactly that with its Quantis Kids eBike, a 24-inch electric bicycle designed for riders aged 12 and up.

If you’ve spent any time in a city with shared micromobility, you’ve probably seen fleets of rental e-bikes and e-scooters waiting on street corners. But one company is betting that the next evolution of shared transportation isn’t just another bike or scooter – it’s an electric trike.

Yamaha may not have found runaway success with its previous electric scooters, but new design filings suggest the company isn’t giving up on battery-powered two-wheelers just yet.

One of the easiest ways to get my attention is to slap the word “premium” on an affordable e-bike. Sometimes it’s justified. Other times it’s… aspirational.

ENVO Drive Systems has unveiled its new Utility Personal Transporter (UPT), a modular electric vehicle platform that can be configured into as many as 18 different vehicle types, with even more combinations possible through optional accessories and upgrades.

Segway has made major strides in the e-bike space recently, but the company isn’t done expanding its electric bicycle lineup just yet.

While American riders have recently embraced electric bicycles and, to a measurably smaller extent, electric motorcycles, traditional seated scooters have struggled to gain traction in North America. Now San Francisco-based HMP Bikes is hoping to change that with its new HMP Flash, a high-performance electric scooter designed from the ground up for riders who rack up serious mileage.
