Dahlia

What's a dahlia plant?

The dahlia is a flowering plant native to Mexico and Central America, prized for its bold, intricate blooms and remarkable variety. A member of the daisy family, it comes in thousands of cultivars ranging from petite pompon flowers to dramatic dinner-plate-sized blossoms, in colors spanning nearly every shade except true blue. Dahlias reward careful tending and bloom from midsummer through fall, making them a favorite in gardens and floral arrangements alike.

Dahlia is the fourth release in our flora-named API versioning model. As the first version in the Dahlia release, 2026-03-25.dahlia introduces both breaking changes and new features—subsequent Dahlia versions will include only additive changes. (Our prior releases were Acacia, Basil, and Clover: every time we introduce a breaking change version, we move to the next release.)

August 26, 2026

The August release of Dahlia adds these features and changes to our GA channel:

  • More control over card payments in Checkout: You can now restrict card funding types in Checkout Sessions. For example, you can block prepaid cards to help reduce free-trial abuse or accept only credit cards for subscription payments.
  • Billing and customer self-service improvements: Customer Sessions can now provide access to customers’ active entitlements and the Stripe-hosted customer portal, enabling feature gating and subscription management. You can also deep link customers directly to update their billing information in the customer portal.
  • More flexible Connect Payment Links: Platforms using Connect can now update application fees, destination charges, and on-behalf-of settings on an existing Payment Link instead of creating a replacement.
  • Expanded Billing capabilities: You can now accept Billie payments for invoices and subscriptions that use send_invoice, including on the Hosted Invoice page. We also increased the item limit for flexible billing mode subscriptions and subscription schedules from 20 to 100.
  • More granular payment method errors: We added standardized error codes for authentication failures, expired payment methods, incorrect postal codes, and restricted payment methods across payment method types, countries, and regions.

Our public preview channel also includes several updates:

  • Account Signals APIs for abuse prevention: We introduced the Account Activity, Account Evaluation, and Account Signal APIs. You can submit login and registration activity to request account sharing and multi-accounting risk evaluation, report the outcomes of your decisions, and retrieve resulting risk signals.
  • Enhanced Global Payouts controls: You can now disable v2 Payout Methods to prevent using them for outbound money movement, and retrieve new bank account information to determine whether an account can receive payouts.
  • Updated payment method configuration for PaymentIntents and SetupIntents: We ended support for setting payment_method_types to specify supported payment methods in PaymentIntents and SetupIntents. Use dynamic payment methods, excluded_payment_method_types, or allowed_payment_method_types instead.

July 29, 2026

The July release of Dahlia adds these features and changes to our GA channel:

  • New payment method support: You can now accept MB WAY when your customers pay on the Hosted Invoice Page. We also now support three new FPX banks (BNP Paribas, Citibank, and MBSB Bank). US bank accounts can now fund top-ups using the Payment Methods API.
  • Billing improvements: Item-level discounts are now preserved through pending subscription updates. We added a new trial property to Subscription Schedule phases. You can now pass subscription metadata in invoice preview requests.
  • Richer refund and payment data: You can now access customer, customer_account, and payment_method directly on the Refund object. A new list endpoint for Payment Records lets you query both on-Stripe and off-Stripe payments with pagination and filtering by creation date and processor type.
  • Enhanced Connect account management: Your platform can now reverse your own rejections on connected accounts without contacting Stripe support. The rejection endpoint also now accepts accounts with non-zero balances and lets you control whether payouts are paused. We also added new address fields to Accounts v1 and Accounts v2 to support compliance requirements for connected accounts in Singapore.
  • Financial Connections enhancements: Sessions now support explicit, composable configuration (payment eligibility filters, account limits, and manual entry mode). We also added four new deactivation webhook events to notify you 30 days before an Account or Authorization is expected to become inactive.
  • Smarter payment method filtering: The new allowed_payment_method_types parameter on PaymentIntents and SetupIntents silently filters incompatible payment methods based on currency, amount, and customer context, rather than returning an error.

Our public preview channel also includes several updates:

  • List and retrieve Trial Offers: We added the ability to list and retrieve your Trial Offers. You can list all Trial Offers with support for filtering by price and creation date, or retrieve a single Trial Offer by ID.
  • Track SCIM and SSO-initiated role change actions: You can now track user role updates and deletions made using SCIM or SSO in Activity Logs to distinguish these actions from role change actions made using the Stripe Dashboard.
  • View errors for eventually due requirements: The Accounts, Persons, and Capabilities APIs now include errors for eventually due requirements. Previously, these APIs only included errors for requirements that were currently due or past due.

June 24, 2026

The June release of Dahlia adds these features and changes to our GA channel:

  • New payment method support and enhancements: You can now accept Satispay payments on a recurring basis, including for subscriptions and invoices. We added support for manual capture with Sunbit. Also, your customers can now use the Sui network or the USDsui token to complete crypto payments.
  • Additional payment transaction details: We added support for uniquely identifying the buyer in Bizum and BLIK transactions. You can now use the Pix fingerprint to determine whether two Pix transactions involve the same underlying Pix account. We also added the transaction link ID, a unique identifier that Mastercard and Maestro assign to link related transactions.
  • Subscription invoice customization: You can now configure the description, footer, and custom fields that appear on every invoice generated by a subscription directly through the Subscriptions API, without updating each invoice individually. These fields were previously only configurable from the Dashboard.
  • Fund top-ups from US bank accounts: You can now fund top-ups from a US bank account using the Payment Methods API.
  • Mastercard compliance disputes: We added support for Mastercard compliance disputes using the Disputes API.
  • Improved reserve release tracking: You can now see which Reserve Releases released funds from a Reserve Hold, including the per-release amount drawn from the hold.

Our public preview channel also includes several updates:

  • Connect enhancements: Express connected accounts now support Stripe-owned pricing and negative balance liability for both Accounts v1 and Accounts v2. Also, Sunbit payments are now available through the Accounts API v2.
  • Billing enhancements: You can now preview how pausing a subscription affects billing and subscription state.
  • Money Management enhancements: We added the account holder name to Received Credit US bank transfers to identify the sender of inbound transfers.
  • Outbound payment and transfer visibility: You can now determine why an outbound payment or transfer is taking longer than expected by subscribing to new events.

May 27, 2026

The May release of Dahlia adds these features and changes to our GA channel:

  • New payment method support: We added support for Scalapay, Bizum, and recurring payments with Twint.
  • Connect enhancements: You can now provide more flexible payout timing for your connected accounts by configuring a customized start of day. You can also now programmatically configure automatic transfers from your payments balance to a Financial Account.
  • Prebilling on subscriptions: You can now collect payment for future billing periods before they begin by specifying billing schedules when you create, update, or preview subscriptions.
  • Discount eligibility options for add-on invoice items: We added the ability to explicitly set whether each add-on invoice item is eligible for discounts.
  • Improved off-Stripe payment visibility: You can now track payments made outside of Stripe directly on the Invoice object.
  • Card brand restrictions on Payment Links: You can now specify which card brands customers can’t use to complete payments on your Payment Links.
  • Terminal enhancements: We added the ability to print images on Terminal readers with embedded printers. We also added support for determining whether a server-driven reader action failure originates from the Stripe API or from the reader. You can also now use four new Verifone device types with Terminal APIs.

Our public preview channel also includes several updates:

  • Billing enhancements: We added the pause subscription endpoint, which allows you to pause an active subscription to suspend both service delivery and invoice generation until you resume it. We also changed the billed_until property on subscription items to be includable rather than returned by default, improving performance for subscription requests that don’t require prebilling data.
  • Expanded Global Payouts destinations: We added support for 20 additional countries as cross-border payout destinations.
  • Account security monitoring enhancements: You can now retrieve individual activity log entries by their ID to access detailed information about security events in your Stripe account.

April 22, 2026

The April release of Dahlia includes new features in our GA channel:

  • New payment method support: We added support for Sunbit, a buy now, pay later (BNPL) payment method. We also added support for Pix recurring payments, allowing you to create subscriptions that use Pix as the payment method for recurring billing for customers in Brazil.
  • Managed Payments: Stripe’s merchant of record solution, Managed Payments, is now available in Checkout Sessions and Payment Links. When enabled, Stripe handles indirect tax compliance (in more than 80 countries), fraud prevention, dispute management, and transaction-level customer support for digital sellers.
  • New tax ID types: You can now collect and store tax identification information for customers in the Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Italy, and Paraguay.
  • Treasury inbound transfer tracking: We added new balance transaction types to help you track fund movements related to Treasury inbound transfers and their reversals.
  • Issuing card-presence spending controls: We added a new card-presence spending control to Issuing, allowing you to allow or block authorizations based on whether the card was physically present during the transaction.
  • Improved fraud prevention capabilities with Radar: You can now maintain lists of trusted or blocked accounts for risk assessment. These account-based value lists integrate with Radar rules to help you make informed decisions about payment processing based on account-level risk factors.

Our public preview channel also includes several updates:

  • Automatic surcharge with Checkout Sessions: You can now automatically calculate and collect surcharge fees when using Checkout Sessions.
  • Programmatic access to account activity logs: The new Activity Logs API provides programmatic access to your account’s security history. You can retrieve detailed logs of security-related activities across your Stripe account, including API key management, user invitations, and role changes.
  • New Global Payout destinations: Global Payouts now supports recipient bank accounts in Japan and China for cross-border payouts.
  • Expanded Accounts v2 availability: The Accounts v2 API is now available to all Stripe users, not only Connect platforms.
  • New agentic commerce capabilities: We added the Orchestrated Commerce Agreements API to help you manage relationships with other businesses for agentic commerce integrations. We also added the Shared Payment Issued Token, which allows agents to grant sellers scoped access to a customer’s payment credentials, and the Shared Payment Granted Token, which allows sellers to accept delegated payments from agents.
  • Programmatic invocation of Stripe Workflows: You can now programmatically invoke and monitor Stripe Workflows through the API, allowing you to trigger workflows in response to application events and user actions.

March 25, 2026

The March release of Dahlia includes new features in our GA channel, along with several breaking changes:

  • Elements and Stripe.js changes: We made several updates to Stripe Elements and Stripe.js, including the removal of deprecated methods from Stripe.js in favor of equivalent methods with clearer naming and improved functionality, as well as the renaming of the Checkout initialization method.
  • New payment method support: We added support for UPI, a real-time payment method in India for accepting one-time and recurring payments.
  • Issuing improvements and changes: You can now configure a virtual Issuing card to automatically be cancelled after making a specified number of payments.
  • Checkout Sessions enhancements and changes: You can now group and track your Checkout Sessions using integration identifiers. We also updated the Checkout Session UI mode enum values. Further, you can now configure the billing interval for pending invoice items when creating subscription-based payments in Checkout Sessions.
  • Decimal quantity support for invoices: We added support for decimal quantities with up to 12 decimal places of precision when creating or updating Invoice Items and Invoice Line Items.

Our public preview channel also includes several updates:

  • Multicurrency support for payouts: v2 Payout Methods now support foreign currencies for payouts.
  • Batch API operations: You can now run API operations in batches, making it easier to process bulk operations like creating multiple customers, migrating subscriptions, or updating large datasets.
  • Azure Event Grid support: You can now send Stripe events directly to Azure using Azure Event Grid as a new type of destination.
  • Ticket sales support in Stripe Tax: You can now calculate tax based on the event’s location instead of the customer’s location. Also, you can now support event-related US tax registration types and access event-related tax breakdown values.
  • Trial offers for subscription items: We introduced the new Trial Offers API, which allows you to create and manage trial offers for subscription items.

To get started with these updates, review the changelog and upgrade your API version.
