Apple Support now ask for browser sign-in instead of Apple Account and password

Apple support community used to ask for Apple ID and password in the past. Now I've noticed it asks you to sign into your browser or through your browser, with your computers password. Is this always the case? Is this new.

Just found this:

Apple Support Communities, along with other Apple services, is asking for your computer (local admin) password to securely unlock your iCloud Keychain or system security keychain, rather than just verifying your Apple ID. This is a security measure designed to ensure that you are physically present and authorized to use stored credentials on that specific device.
