Yesterday, I had the pleasure of giving a lightning talk at the first Cursor Warsaw Meetup (thanks to Pawel Manowiecki and BRAVE.courses for organizing!) on how AI-powered tools like Cursor IDE can change the way we think about software engineering — not just coding. 🧠 Main idea: Software engineering is a process where programming is almost the last step. The real opportunity lies in using AI earlier — during analysis, design, and planning — when the biggest architectural and business decisions are made. 🚀 My main conclusions: • We can (and should) apply AI assistance before(!) coding, by using Spec-Driven Development / Context Engineering approaches. • Cursor, Claude Code, Kiro.dev, GitHub’s SpecKit, and others are already experimenting with this — enabling developers to write specifications alongside code. • The key challenge is not just generating code, but helping us think better about systems: spotting blind spots, clarifying assumptions, and structuring reasoning. • A good process follows the principle of Review → Tweak → Tune: 1. Review what AI generated 2. Tweak to improve your artifacts 3. Tune the process, prompts, and templates 🔄 Flexibility means accepting that even the process isn’t solid. If our systems are dynamic, our methods must be too.

Most Engineering Managers optimize for processes. I optimized for kilometers. Over the past year, I've visited all 7 EPAM Systems offices across Poland - Poznań, Wrocław, Katowice, Warsaw, Łódź, Kraków, and Gdańsk. But I didn't stop there. I've traveled through all 16 Polish voivodeships. Why would an Engineering Manager do that? Because managing distributed teams isn't just about Jira boards and stand-ups. It's about understanding the context your people live in. The cities they commute through. The culture that shapes how they work. A few things I've learned along the way: - A 15-minute coffee in person replaces weeks of Slack back-and-forth - Every office has its own micro-culture - and that's a feature, not a bug - When your team sees you show up, trust compounds faster than any process can build it - Understanding the country you work in makes you a better leader in it Poland has 16 voivodeships, 312,696 km², and an incredible diversity of people, mindsets, and energy. Seeing all of it gave me more leadership insight than any management book. If you lead distributed teams - get out of your home office. After last week's posts on missing opportunities while hiring Game QAs, I've had some fascinating discussions, not only in those comment threads, but also in meetings with our Recruiting team about the upcoming needs we have for different AAA projects. One question that keeps coming up: "HOW do we actually identify the right testing talent?" Here's the thing: it depends on what your project actually needs! Let's compare these "profiles": - "I've been passionate about gaming since I was 5" vs. "I've participated in Open Beta testing and reported bugs to support teams" - "Will I be able to move to another path after some months?" vs. "How can I grow in the Testing path long-term?" - "I hit Diamond rank in the Game" vs. "I found a game-breaking bug and documented repro steps for the support team" Which one fits YOUR project better? Maybe you need the best gamers. Maybe you need the best testers who happen to work in gaming. Maybe you need both. Here's what I mean: We have teams that require deep game knowledge, professionals who can play a level exactly how the designer intended, understanding every mechanic. But we also have teams that need edge-case testers, the ones who immediately walk into walls after spawning, or try to equip two items that, according to the description, shouldn't be compatible. They want to check the logic. Some projects need people who know the lore and characters inside-out, because a certain IP needs to stay faithful to its universe. Other projects need testers who understand the math, interaction layers, priority stacks, and competitive meta-game mechanics. Different projects. Different needs. Different signals to look for. We couldn’t miss the chance to talk about the growth of this field in our company!   👉 .NET is a crucial field of specialization in Poland. How do you plan to develop this expertise? My goal is to create an environment that fosters the professional growth of our engineers. We’ve already built a strong community where everyone can grow in directions that align with both their personal interests and the company’s needs.   For example, we actively encourage participation in public speaking, pre-sales activities as technical or domain experts, and involvement in the interview process as technical interviewers. Additionally, we invest significant effort in organizing internships. These programs provide opportunities for our team members to try themselves as mentors, system architects, or lecturers, while also strengthening their soft skills.   At the same time, internships allow our interns to gain the most up-to-date knowledge in the most in-demand areas, ensuring they are well-prepared for real project work from the very beginning. Alina Serous from Ecommpay told me something that's been stuck in my head. B2B fintech is sleeping on the most obvious opportunity for 2026. And it's been right in front of us the whole time. Stealing from B2C. She said: "We're so regulated and so afraid to step out of the box. But we could use micro-influencers, work with people who have their own audiences. We don't even need to invent the wheel. B2C has been doing this for a decade". And I mean, she's right. Not chasing influencers with millions of followers. That's not the play. It's partnering with people who have hundreds or thousands of engaged followers. People who already have trust with the exact audience you're trying to reach. Building communities of voices. Not to sell. To educate. To share real experiences. The thing is, in fintech and financial services, everyone's scared. Heavily regulated. Stuck in gated content and corporate thought leadership. Meanwhile B2C figured this out years ago. Funny enough, Jonathan Nyst told me the exact same thing over a month ago. Two completely different companies. Same prediction. After dozens of conversations with HRs, I'm still unemployed - seems like my document situation is more complex than I though. At QA Community Picnic – Soft Skills Edition, organized by Moldova QA Community, we talked a lot about communication, proactivity, learning, teamwork. All of these matter — but today, they are not enough. I believe soft and hard skills cannot be seen separately. Together with experience, they intertwine and shape what I call professional skills. And those are what define our real value as specialists. Here are 5 soft skills that, in my view, truly move a career forward: 🔹 Value Focus It’s not just about being active.
