How do we optimise solar energy yield at our solar farms around the world?   The answer is simple, yet challenging: It’s all about the right angle. The optimal tilt angle of a solar panel plays a key role in maximising energy output. But it is significantly influenced by geographic location, local conditions, and the season, as the sun’s position changes throughout the year. With solar farms across the globe, we adapt the installation angles to these factors. And since there is no one-size-fits-all-solution, this is a crucial task to consider when planning a solar farm.   As a rule of thumb, a tilt between 20° and 30° to the horizon helps capture a high amount of sunlight in many regions. But we’re using different technologies that help us to get the most out of the sunlight — and to get the best angle possible.   👉 Swipe to learn more about the most relevant technologies.

Times are busy for our teams in Italy: We are doubling our capacity under construction to 235 MW.   In 2025, we started building 112 MW of wind and Agri-PV projects. This year, we’re adding another 123 MW to our construction portfolio — more than doubling the capacity.   Last year, our first two commercial-scale Agri-PV plants broke ground in Campania and are now moving into commissioning. In addition, two major onshore wind farms are progressing in Apulia and Basilicata. In 2026, our renewables portfolio expands even further with a new onshore wind project, one solar farm, and four additional Agri-PV plants across the country.   Now, 26 wind turbines and 127,000 solar modules are rising in parallel across Italy. Once completed, the sites will be able to supply over 190,000 Italian households with electricity. Our new projects build on the foundation of the 17 onshore wind farms RWE already operates in Italy.   It’s fantastic to see how strongly we are growing in Italy, and how we are delivering on our commitment to supporting the country’s energy transition. And more projects are just around the corner. Big thanks to #TeamRWE for making this possible.

Imagine having the same company on your work name tag as your father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. That's the case for Lars Klevers, whose family has worked at RWE for five generations. Pictured in the first photo from 2017 are Lars; his grandfather Julius, who has sadly passed away; and his father Lothar. Across the Rhenish mining region, the Klevers family has witnessed decades of change — starting with Lars' great-great-grandfather, who worked in the Princess Victoria briquette factory. Lars and Lothar, who recently retired, worked together in the lignite area: Lothar in the district statistics department, and Lars as a technical engineer in the Material Master Data team led by Adam Sagolla. The company and the energy world have transformed dramatically over the 100+ years since the family started working here. As the energy transition continues, Lars is bringing the legacy into a new chapter shaped by evolving technologies. What remains consistent is the passion and commitment. We're glad to have the Klevers family as part of #TeamRWE — past, present, and future.

Gold, silver, bronze, electricity! The closing ceremony is just around the corner and the medal table is taking shape. Now there is finally time for new perspectives — namely, perspective on the amount of electricity required. As skiiers race down the slopes, figure skaters perfect their quad jumps, and luge and skeleton athletes test the limits of human adrenaline, electricity keeps things running smoothly behind-the-scenes. Based on its arithmetic mean electricity generation over the course of the year, our Italian onshore wind fleet could have delivered nearly 50 GWh of clean electricity during the Olympic Games. Swipe to discover what that could power in Cortina. 🏅

Battery storage holds vast potential, and we are increasingly seeing this potential being realised in practice. The latest report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) shows that battery deployment is accelerating as costs fall. Lower global battery prices have significantly boosted the competitiveness and affordability of battery storage, driving massive growth worldwide. The installed capacity of utility-scale batteries in 2024 was more than 12 times as high as in 2020. And that’s great news given their potential to strengthen the energy system as a whole by balancing intermittent renewable electricity generation, stabilising electricity prices, and improving overall system reliability. Of course, there is no one-size-fits-all technology. Adopting a technology-neutral approach is indispensable, considering regional and weather-dependent differences. A secure energy system needs a diverse mix. But within the broader portfolio of flexibility solutions, batteries are increasingly recognised as a vital element – not least as they become more and more affordable. At RWE, we develop, build and operate battery systems across the US, Europe and Australia. Currently, we already have 1.7 GW of battery capacity in operation worldwide, and an additional 2.4 GW under construction. And we're looking forward to more.

We were excited to host our 3rd Pre-Moot at RWE HQ in Essen! ⚖️    We welcomed eight international student teams for a day of oral pleadings, open discussions, and great exchanges with our legal colleagues, who stepped into the role of arbitrators. Alongside the debates, students got a closer look at what in-house legal work at RWE is really like and had the chance to connect with one another.    The level of preparation and advocacy was impressive, and the conversations made it a valuable experience on all sides.    A big thank you to all our RWE colleagues, as well as the universities and students who took part, and best of luck to everyone heading to the oral hearings in Vienna and Hong Kong!  Vis Moot Team HHU Düsseldorf Vis Moot Team Osnabrück Vis Moot Team Bochum Jagiellonian University Vis Moot Team University of Pavia Vis Moot Team Gray's Inn Waseda University Your energy has impact at #TeamRWE  https://lnkd.in/eCP4Fpht #OurEnergyHasImpact

Has anyone ever asked 1,700 Merino sheep about their experiences of living in an agrivoltaic system?   As far as we know, not yet. That's what makes a study of the Spanish sheep breed at a solar farm in New South Wales, Australia, even more interesting. The researchers divided the sheep into two groups: one living on traditional pastures and the other grazing beneath solar panel installations.   In the end, the sheep’s verdict was clear. Those living in the agrivoltaic system benefited from better wool, better health, and plenty of shade under PV systems. Other studies show that other animals like birds, butterflies, grasshoppers and bats adopt solar parks as living spaces. PV structures offer shade, shelter, and other advantages for the animals, especially when co-located with other agricultural uses.   And there are advantages for the solar panels, too: by grazing below, sheep help manage vegetation and reduce maintenance costs. Grazing can save approximately $20 USD per hectare per year compared to mowing, which adds up quickly. We think the sheep at our solar farms, like Lafitte Solar in the U.S. state of Louisiana, would call this "lambscaping" approach a win-win.
