𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝗺𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: In just 23 days, the Benchijigua Express underwent a complete 𝗤𝗟𝟰 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝘁𝘂 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝟴𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 — ensuring continued speed, reliability, and efficiency for Fred. Olsen Express operations between the Canary Islands. Each engine — 20V 8000 M71 rated at 9,100 kW — was fully dismantled, inspected, and had critical components such as cylinder heads and connecting rods replaced. Thanks to precise coordination, parts logistics, and our dedicated colleagues both engines were overhauled simultaneously. Following successful sea trials, the high-speed trimaran ferry was fast back at sea. 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗩𝗢 – 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 HVO - or renewable diesel - is redefining what diesel engines can achieve – by dramatically cutting emissions without replacing existing technology. mtu systems across marine, rail, mining, defense and standby power are already proving it in the field. As a paraffinic fuel made from waste oils and fats, HVO reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90%, particulate matter by over 40%, and NOₓ by up to 8% – all while delivering full engine performance. It's biodegradable, odourless, stable in storage, and suitable for cold climates. “HVO is our ‘first choice’ fuel,” says AVK-SEG CEO Ben Pritchard. 𝗔 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗮 Surface Effect Ships (SES) are rewriting what’s possible in offshore crew transport – and mtu propulsion is leading the charge. The latest example: three new vessels built by Strategic Marine for an African national oil company, each capable of over 53 knots. At the core are 𝗺𝘁𝘂 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟬𝗠𝟳𝟮 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 – 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟱,𝟳𝟲𝟬 𝗸𝗪 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹. Thanks to their outstanding power-to-weight ratio and long maintenance intervals, these engines were critical to making the SES concept viable for commercial offshore use. Rolls-Royce is donating 250,000 EUR to support ten aid organizations that were deployed after the attack on the #Magdeburg Christmas market on 20 December and are still helping the bereaved and surviving victims. Dr. Thelse Godewerth, Member of the Executive Board and Labour Director of Rolls-Royce-Power Systems, presented the donation to Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Dr. Reiner Haseloff today. The Prime Minister accepted the donation on behalf of the aid organizations at the Rolls-Royce Solutions Magdeburg subsidiary's plant. Thelse Godewerth said: "Many of our Magdeburg employees were at the Christmas market at the time of the attack. Many of them know people in their personal environment who are still suffering from the consequences of the attack today. These people are dependent on help, including voluntary help. We stand by the side of our colleagues, we stand by the side of Magdeburg and we stand by the side of those who take on human responsibility. We need solidarity and humanity, especially in these times." On December 20, 2024, six people were killed and over 300 were directly injured in an attack with a car at the Magdeburg Christmas market. #solidarity #humanity

Avacon Gruppe and Rolls-Royce are teaming up to drive the integration of battery storage into the power grid through a pioneering research project in northern Germany. At the heart of the initiative is the intelligent 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗩 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀, 𝗺𝘁𝘂 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 - with the goal of balancing renewable generation and stabilizing the grid. By connecting home storage with large-scale battery systems, the project aims to enable up to 100% local self-consumption and relieve pressure on the power grid. This field test marks a significant step toward a smarter, more resilient energy system. As Olaf Lies, Lower Saxony's Economic Minister, Rainer Schmittdiel, CTO of Avacon, and Dr. Lukas Koehler, Managing Director Sales and Service Germany at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, symbolically commissioned the mtu storage system, the message was clear: energy security and transition go hand in hand. Traditionally, young girls are invited to learn about the wide range of technical occupations in our vocational training program at Girls' Day. 31 girls took advantage of the offer this year. On this day, they not only gained insights from apprentices into the day-to-day work of industrial mechanics, electronics technicians for automation technology or the bachelor's program. They also had the opportunity to file and solder, see the 3D printer in action, operate the CNC machine and, at the end, assemble a solar ventilator themselves under the guidance of our trainer Simone Schmalzried. “I was very pleased with the participants' keen interest in our vocational fields. When I was at school, I was here for Girls' Day myself, and today I really enjoy my job as a technical trainer. It would be great if some of the participants also wanted to start their careers in a technical profession with us. Maybe I was able to inspire them today!” reports Simone Schmalzried. “For us, Girls' Day is an institution, not just one day a year. It is an investment in the future – of our company and of young girls. We want to help reduce reservations about technical occupations and our industry and break down stereotypical role models. By dealing with technical tasks in an informal way and, above all, by interacting with our female trainers and technical experts, we show them that they can achieve anything they set their minds to – regardless of the field!” emphasized Dr. Thelse Godewerth, our Chief Human Resources Officer, at the meeting with the participants. At Rolls-Royce Power Systems, the career path from training to permanent employment is usually seamless. A total of 18 young people, for example, recently completed their training as so-called winter graduates and are now working in a wide range of departments, depending on their personal interests.
