📕 New: “Thermal Analysis of Food” by Dr. Markus Schubnell Thermal analysis is an important tool in the food industry for reliably identifying changes in the physical and chemical properties of food – from raw materials testing to quality assurance and quality control in production processes. Now published by Hanser Publications, “Thermal Analysis of Food” is professional reference that provides a well-founded overview of this specialized field while also presenting a wide range of practical application examples. The book focuses in particular on the key methods of thermal analysis: ▪️ Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) ▪️ Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) ▪️ Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA) ▪️ Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) It also covers selected combined techniques, such as TGA with a humidity generator and TGA-Evolved Gas Analysis. Who is this book for? It is aimed at both beginners and experienced practitioners working in research, development, and laboratory practice – in academia, industrial laboratories, central testing labs, and quality control. 📖 More about the book and reading sample: https://lnkd.in/eFc5XEuj About the author: 𝗗𝗿. Schiller's eleventh: "Understanding Plastics Additives - A Textbook" At the beginning, I found the idea of writing a textbook on #plasticadditives a little bit odd, because the "Plastics Additives Handbook" from Hanser Publications already exists. After thinking carefully it became clear to me: "Understanding Plastics Additives – a Textbook" by Dr. Peter Frenkel and me – belongs in every additives library, but it does not replace the the Handbook. It is primarily aimed at beginners and students in polymer science. With a length of around 300 pages it is handy, comparatively affordable, and therefore a book you can easily carry with you. Chapter 1 introduces plastics using a simple analogy: #polymers are explained like trains – the wagons correspond to the monomers, and the locomotive represents the initiator in radical #polymerization. After that, the content becomes progressively more #scientific and demanding. At the beginning of each chapter you find clear definitions, within the text there are simple rules of thumb that make remembering and understanding easier, and at the end there are exam-style questions that allow readers to check whether they have really understood the material. The book systematically covers the most important classes of additives – from #antioxidants, #lightstabilizers, #PVCstabilizers, #plasticizers, #acidscavengers, and #lubricants through polymer processing aids to #antiblock, #antistatic and #flameretardant, #blowingagents, #colorants, and #fillers. In addition to mechanisms of action, we also discuss physical behavior, incorporation into the polymer matrix, relevant test methods, and, in some cases, formulation examples – exactly the topics that in practice often decide whether something “works” or “does not work”. My conclusion: this textbook belongs in all #university and institute #libraries, it's a true must read for everyone dealing with plastic additives and a kind of game changer for many students. My big Five Africa has its “Big Five”: elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, lion and leopard. In my professional world, I also have my very own “Big Five” – in book form for the PVC industry. They include “PVC Stabilisatoren” and its international editions: “PVC Additives” (now in its 2nd English edition, as well as in Russian and, most recently, in Chinese). This quintet is completed by the “PVC Handbook” (2nd edition), which I had the pleasure of co‑editing with Richard Krock, Dr. Peter Frenkel, James W. Summers and Charles A. Daniels. That makes five in total – or six, if you count the second English edition separately. Strictly speaking, it is even seven if I add “PVC A–Z”, co‑authored with Dr. Gerhard Zuschnig and available exclusively online on the Plastics.ai platform. All of these works in (German or English) and the platform are published with Hanser Verlag. If you ignore editions and translations, it comes back down to my “Big Three”. However you count them: I am proud of this journey, of the collaboration with outstanding colleagues, and of being able to provide the PVC industry with these reference works as a contribution to knowledge and orientation. Thanks a lot to the Hanser team, esp. to Dr. Mark Smith. #PVC #polyvinylchloride #PVCStabilisers #PlasticAdditives #PVCAdditives #PVCHandbook #TechnicalBooks #MaterialsScience #PlasticsIndustry #HanserVerlag #Author #Editor #Innovation #IndustryKnowledge #ChemicalEngineering #mustreads

The new book "Circular Textile Economy", edited by Thomas Gries, Lukasz Debicki, Christian Philipp Schindler, and Prof. Dr. Stefan Schlichter, examines the concept of the circular economy from the point of view of textile-to-textile recycling, with strong consideration of the latest political objectives. It presents basic principles and implementation possibilities, as well as the textile-to-textile recycling solutions that have already been implemented in industry and those which show promise for the future. Thus, it provides the starting point for readers who want or need to reduce environmental impact. Global fiber production is growing continuously, and the negative impact of textile waste on our environment is increasing correspondingly. Although the share of recycled fibers is also increasing, it is mainly linear bottle recycling; the share of pre- or post-consumer textile recycling remains less than 1% of the fiber market. With an international authorship from both industry and academia, and reader-friendly presentation including many illustrations and in-depth practical examples, this book identifies and explains practical solutions to these challenges. University Meets Business: Master’s Students from the International SDI University of Applied Sciences Munich visit Hanser Team at Café Carl AI is transforming how knowledge is created, shared, and used. One example is plastics.ai – Hanser’s AI chatbot that brings together high-quality expert knowledge in plastics engineering, from design and processing to recycling. It delivers fast, reliable answers in more than 80 languages, offering significant value for industry, research, and development worldwide. But how can these global markets best be approached? This question was explored by Master’s students from the international degree programs Digital Media Management and Intercultural Communication at SDI Munich. Last Friday, they presented their ideas and strategies at Hanser Verlag, drawing on insights from their home countries and applying a clear understanding of different markets, target groups, and use cases. The presentations were followed by an engaging and inspiring exchange with colleagues from across the publishing house. Many thanks to Prof. Dr. Harald Henzler and the students for their valuable ideas and fresh perspectives. Fast fashion is not a guilty pleasure – it is a serious global challenge. Mountains of discarded clothing are growing worldwide, placing an increasing burden on our environment. The textile industry is facing one of the defining questions of our time: How can materials be kept in circulation and environmental impacts be significantly reduced? ♻️ New release: Circular Textile Economy The new book »Circular Textile Economy« addresses exactly this challenge. It focuses on textile-to-textile recycling as a key lever for transforming linear value chains into circular systems – taking into account current policy objectives as well as industrial practice. What does this book cover? ▪️ Principles and implementation pathways of circular economy concepts in the textile sector ▪️ The full process chain from textile production to recycling ▪️ Industry case studies and strategic transformation approaches ▪️ Assessment of existing solutions and promising future innovations Despite increasing recycling rates, pre- and post-consumer textile recycling still accounts for less than 1% of the fiber market. This book highlights the core challenges – and presents concrete solutions that are already being implemented or show strong potential for the future. Edited by: Thomas Gries (RWTH Aachen University) · Lukasz Debicki (ITA Institut für Textiltechnik der RWTH Aachen University) · Christian Philipp Schindler (ITMF) · Prof. Dr. Stefan Schlichter (Technische Hochschule Augsburg) 📖 Learn more and explore the sample chapter here: https://lnkd.in/dvEbnjYZ We thank all contributing editors and authors for their valuable work in this important publication.
