There was hope for this land after all 🌱 In this part of Burkina Faso’s Sahel region, the soil was getting drier year after year. With our partners HOMMES ET TERRE and local communities, we planted and protected 14,662 trees from diverse species 💚 To survive the dry conditions, trees are planted in half-moon-shaped pits that capture rainwater. This forest in Portugal has no single owner 🌲 That’s part of what makes our new reforestation project in Verdelhos, Central Portugal, so unique. Together with our local partner GEOTA, we're planting 50,000 native trees: sweet chestnut and wild pine, species that have always been part of this landscape and can help it recover. Unlike monocultures such as eucalyptus, these local species are better adapted to recurring fires — while also supporting livelihoods. And because the land is managed collectively, the forest can be restored as one connected landscape — not hundreds of separate pieces.
