JAN/FEB 2026 DWCS NEWSLETTER

Hello, 2026 ~

The New Year has immediately begun with a bit of travel. The best kind: a vacation. December was a bit different for me this year, limited due to recovery from a new knee. All is well, and I made up for it with a week-long road trip to the west coast of Florida, ending in St. Petersburg. If ever you are there, be sure to visit the Dali Museum and the Dale Chihuly Collection. Both unique and fantastic artists - able to cause extended staring at every beautiful piece. Yes, indeed, their type of beauty will calm your soul and put you in a state of wonder. Just the brain break needed.

This is also a typical time to consider 'where you're at': whether to charge forward, traveling confidently on the track you're most familiar with, or pause to consider what might work better for you in 2026.

Many view January as a new start. It is, in several ways. How might you take advantage of the momentum? We are prepping for two Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) conferences in February: CREF26 in San Diego (thank you to Goldman Sachs for their sponsorship, followed by SVC26 in Grapevine, Texas (thank you to our sponsor, MCS). Thank you to Kim Newell for our long-standing relationship - Texas will be our 15th MBA conference. We're reminding our clients and past attendees that now is an optimal time to update/refresh their LinkedIn profiles. If this is on your 'to-do' list, contact us soon - we'd love to help you!

Are you serious about getting ahead in 2026? Whatever your goal, let us help you and your team. Contact us about our growing services, including mini-sessions, and learn how we can best help you to excel using LinkedIn.

I am super-excited to add 'author' to my expertise in February! It's been several months since I started my first book, and I can't wait for you to read it. The topic will be of interest to every professional that recieves this newsletter. Stay tuned - in the meantime, do you need a guest for your podcast?

Make it a great 1st quarter!

LinkedIn Tips and More

TIP 1 - DUST OFF THAT PROFILE

The New Year often arrives before we seem to finish the intended tasks for the previous year. Good intentions abound, and if you find that your LinkedIn profile has become dated, now is the time for an update.

Review

  • Headshot - if older than a year, consider a new one
  • About - is your information current? Are you stating your value proposition authentically? How can you help them?
  • Experience - be certain your current role is included
  • There are new options and settings available - get up to speed & be ready for success in 2026!

TIP 2 - YOUR VOICE MATTERS

The Name Pronunciation option isn't just for members who have difficult-to-say names, like me! This is a free, 10-second recording that you can change as often as you'd like. Visit my profile to hear how I use this valuable gem. Your name takes just a second, then you have several more to make a statement. Check your mobile app for easy steps use it.

TIP 3 - ENGAGE, ENGAGE, ENGAGE

One of many changes in the LinkedIn algorithm kicked in a while ago, and it really packs a punch to improve your visibility. There are over a billion members, and you need to do all you can to stand out from the masses. Check your Notifications first, each time you visit LinkedIn. Then head to your Home Page feed - emphasis on engaging with posts and comments is stronger than ever. Your Activity here will make a difference in your Views. It doesn't take long to browse and find a few posts that resonate enough to tap a Reaction: Like, Celebrate, Support, Love, Insightful, Funny. When you can, add value with a comment that exceeds 8 words. Eyeroll on the # of words, but it does make a difference.

TIP 4 - GET OUT AND NETWORK

Hopefully, you live in an area that offers options for professional networking choices. Chambers of Commerce are a good start; professional organizations that focus on your areas of interest are another. Meetup and Eventbrite are two sites to check that are 'area-specific'. Networking is KEY to your success, regardless of the work you do. More about that next month... hint-hint. :)

SPECIAL SPOTLIGHT

The Moving Edge Workshop

I have known Scott Lappin for more than a decade - we met through local networking (of course!) and, at the time, he had become an accomplished, award-winning professional ballroom dancer and instructor. Fast forward to his latest development: The Moving Edge Workshop. I recently participated in a preview and learned firsthand about its value. His purpose is to train corporate teams to build trust through human connection, enabling more high-functioning teams. HR Directors would benefit by contacting Scott via LinkedIn (profile link is above) or through his Moving Edge Workshop, which was fun and effective!
