Heartbleed was a buffer over-read. You may be thinking of “goto fail;”. Even there, the problem was not omitting braces, it was inadequate code review and testing. It is pretty trivial to make a “goto fail;”-like copy-paste error that includes braces: if (...) {\n\tgoto fail;\n} {\n\tgoto fail;\n}
