Great discussion at the recently concluded CommunicAsia 2026 panel session: “Enabling a Smart Connectivity World: From Edge Intelligence to Real-World Impact.” Really appreciated the valuable perspectives shared around edge computing, intelligent devices, autonomous systems, scalable tracking, and real-world deployment challenges shaping the future of smart connectivity. Some very meaningful real-world examples were also shared during the session. Mark Yong from Garuda Robotics spoke about how advanced aerial inspection technologies are transforming traditionally manual building inspections into real-time inspections with risk detection capabilities, improving operational efficiency and safety. GK Yeo from STYL also highlighted the tremendous amount of engineering, testing, and planning required to ensure highly reliable and disruption-free payment systems - including those widely deployed across Singapore MRT stations. Justin Zhang from Tack One shared how compact long-battery-life trackers can provide greater confidence and peace of mind for families, especially when elderly loved ones are out and about, knowing their safety and whereabouts can always be monitored. Supporting many of these innovations behind the scenes are advancements in semiconductor and edge computing technologies. Tee Kai Ping from Qualcomm shared insights into how next-generation semiconductor platforms are enabling smarter, faster, and more efficient connected devices, while Quectel continues to bridge these technologies into real-world deployments through intelligent wireless and IoT solutions.
