FAI LA TUA SCELTA. Play. Think. Decide. Discuss. Reflect. – Italian Civil Protection Authority
A gaming experience for civil protection preparedness
Fai la tua scelta (“Make Your Choice”) is a collaborative card game developed as part of the L’attimo decisivo (“The Decisive Moment”) project of the Italian Civil Protection Department. The game (physical/ online) invites participants to assess risk and emergency situations, identify useful resources and make decisions together under conditions of limited information and resources. Through play, discussion and reflection, participants explore key aspects of civil protection decision-making. There are no right or wrong answers: the value lies in the reasoning behind each choice and the discussion that follows.
From Operations to Simulation: Serious Gaming with Operational Tools and Agentic AI - PPRD East 4 project
PPRD East 4 will demonstrate how serious gaming and simulation exercises can be supported by operational Civil Protection tools and agentic AI workflows. Participants will take part in a guided disaster-response scenario inspired by a discussion-based or Table-Top Exercise, combining large, printed scenario maps with LEGO bricks used as a visual information-coding system. Colour, shape, size and connection points can represent responders, affected populations, needs, available capacities, critical assets and geographic areas. The demonstration shows how operational data, tangible visualisation and agentic AI can support the design, conduct and evaluation of more dynamic Civil Protection exercises, while keeping human decision-making and exercise management at the centre.
SparkleFire – CP Knowledge Network SparkleFire Project
SparkleFire is a cooperative educational board game that introduces participants to wildfire prevention, preparedness and climate adaptation. The game encourages participants to explore how different decisions influence wildfire risk and resilience, highlighting the importance of cooperation and long-term preparedness. SparkleFire has been adapted to four European bioregions — Mediterranean, Atlantic, Central European and Northern European — allowing the gameplay and challenges to reflect different environmental and social contexts. Through an accessible and engaging format, the game helps participants understand wildfire risk, explore the value of preventive action and consider how communities can strengthen their resilience to changing wildfire conditions.
Heritage Drivers ComPASS - RESILIAGE Horizon Europe Research Project
This participatory tabletop serious game was designed to help participants identify and discuss heritage resources that can contribute to community resilience. Through a structured and collaborative process, participants explore how different heritage resources and initiatives can support preparedness and resilience. By bringing together different perspectives and forms of knowledge, the game helps highlight the potential of heritage as a resource for resilience and encourages new ideas and collaborative approaches at local and broader levels.
Training for Trainers – Psychological First Aid Card Game - RESILIAGE Horizon Europe Research Project
This game is a brief, hands-on demonstration of an evidence-informed card-based educational tool designed to promote emotional self-regulation and psychological resilience among first responders. Participants can experience the cards individually, selecting exercises responding to their current emotional or physical state, or in pairs, with one participant facilitating an exercise for the other. The cards guide practical techniques including breathing, relaxation, grounding, cognitive refocusing and self-compassion, while the paired activity also introduces basic supportive communication and Psychological First Aid principles.
Polycrisis Exploration Workshop – European Commission, Joint Research Centre (JRC)
The Polycrisis Exploration Workshop facilitates strategic conversations about current and future risks, disasters and polycrisis. It draws on insights from the JRC’s Risks on the Horizon foresight study, which identifies 40 future risks grouped into ten categories. The workshop uses a three-step approach: exploring the broad spectrum of risks, examining how risks can interact and cascade, and identifying policy interventions and relevant stakeholders.
