About us

INTRODUCTION The Creation of RASCOM RASCOM is a Pan-African Satellite Communication Organization, created from the will of African Governments and States, and set up in order to bridge the digital divide between the continent and the rest of the world. To overcome the challenges of this digital divide and the opening up of rural areas in Africa, the member States of the African Unity (currently African Union) agreed to establish a satellite telecommunications system as part of an enhanced telecommunications network for Africa, intended to provide expanded telecommunications services to all African countries This manifest will of African Governments and States has led to the creation of the Regional African Satellite Communications Organization « RASCOM » following the adoption of the Resolution RASCOM/02 of the Conference of African Ministers responsible for Telecommunications held in May 1992 at Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. MISSION Provide affordable infrastructure on a large scale to rural areas ; Develop and improve inter-urban communication ; Establish direct links between African countries ; Provide facilities for radio and television broadcast in African countries ; Support international connectivity ; Provide a range of services, voice, data, multi-media, telemedicine, tele-education, video conferencing etc. OBJECTIVES The main purpose of RASCOM shall be the design, development, construction, procurement, establishment, operation and maintenance of the space segment of the regional African telecommunications satellite system. In this context, RASCOM shall have as its prime objective the provision, on a commercial basis, of the space segment required for national and international public telecommunications services in Africa.

  • Today, we celebrate Africa Day. Africa stands at an important moment in its history. Across the continent, we are witnessing growing ambition in technology, innovation, digital infrastructure, aviation, connectivity and space development. The future of Africa will depend on our ability to work together, invest in our people, strengthen our institutions and build infrastructure that supports long-term growth and resilience. Satellite navigation, digital systems and emerging technologies are becoming increasingly important for transportation, trade, agriculture, disaster management and economic integration across the continent. As Africans, we must continue moving from dependence to capability, from fragmentation to coordination, and from consumption to innovation. Africa’s greatest resource remains its people, especially its youth, whose creativity and determination continue to shape the continent’s future. Happy Africa Day to all Africans across the world. #AfricaDay #AfricaRising #Innovation #DigitalTransformation #Space #SatelliteNavigation #Technology #AfricanUnion #Agenda2063

  • As we mark World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2026, RASCOM reaffirms its commitment to advancing resilient, inclusive, and sovereign connectivity across Africa. Africa’s digital future must be built on a multi-layered ecosystem integrating satellite communications, terrestrial networks, submarine cables, and emerging technologies to ensure no community is left behind. Satellite communications are no longer optional infrastructure. They are strategic infrastructure critical to education, healthcare, emergency response, trade, innovation, and sustainable development. At RASCOM, we believe Africa must actively shape, protect, and coordinate its own digital future through stronger continental collaboration, policy harmonisation, capacity building, and protection of African orbital and spectrum resources. Together, let us bridge the digital divide and accelerate Africa’s digital transformation. #RASCOM #WTISD2026 #DigitalSovereignty #SatelliteCommunications #Africa #Connectivity #Broadband #Space #Telecommunications #Agenda2063
