🎉 Proudly presenting the article collection "Advancements in Ischemic Retinopathies: Unraveling Molecular Mechanisms and Innovative Therapeutic Avenues" Edited by Ravirajsinh Jadeja, Pamela Martin, Dario Rusciano, and Snježana Kaštelan Ischemic retinopathies, commonly described as the "stroke of the retina," are major contributors to vision loss in diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, and retinal vascular occlusion. Oxidative stress and inflammatory pathways play a pivotal role in their pathogenesis. In the ischemic retina, an excess of free radicals prompts neurodegeneration alongside glial activation and vascular injury. This detrimental cascade underscores the urgent need to delve deeper into both the condition's molecular underpinnings and its clinical manifestations. This Research Topic aims to enhance the understanding of ischemic retinopathies through the exploration of novel molecular mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities. By dissecting the roles of oxidative stress and inflammation, and by identifying new biomarkers and targets, this collection seeks to set the stage for the next generation of treatments. Enhanced knowledge here could lead to significant advancements in therapeutic strategies, improving outcomes for patients affected by these challenging conditions. 👉 Browse the collection: https://lnkd.in/ei4WPxJd Published in Frontiers in Medicine (Impact Factor 3.0, CiteScore 6.0) medicine@frontiersin.org #retinopathy #retinopathies #retina #ophthalmology #openaccess

We are entering a new era in #surgery and the safe deployment of surgical AI depends just as much on governance as it does on technology 🖥️ . New technologies, including surgical #robots and #AI, are becoming key players in surgical teams and their integration of these technologies into the operating room must overcome the technological and research challenges, as well as the regulatory and ethical ones. These tools could support surgeons, take on certain tasks, and change how responsibilities are shared across the team 👁️🗨️ . 📢 Call for papers! The article collection "Long COVID in Family Medicine and Primary Care Services" is open to submissions Edited by Silke Brenne, Susanne Yvette Young, and Marcia Spoelder Coordinated by Regine Mößle Despite its growing relevance, long COVID remains diagnostically and therapeutically challenging. There are currently no biomarkers or definitive laboratory tests to determine the disease, and testing for COVID-19 is less common. Hence doctors and therapists face major challenges in diagnosis. This diagnostic uncertainty, combined with variable disease trajectories and limited evidence for targeted therapies, poses considerable challenges for healthcare systems. Since general practitioners are often the first point of contact for patients, the perspective of family medicine is of particular importance for healthcare research and improved patient care. This Research Topic aims to present research on long COVID that is relevant to family medicine and primary care, with a focus on patient centred interdisciplinary care structures that include validation and psychotherapeutic support to help patients cope, adjust, and manage the psychological impact of chronic symptoms and uncertainty. We welcome manuscripts which consider the unique opportunities and challenges of care for long COVID in general practice and provide insights of interest and value to family doctors. Attention will also be paid to low-threshold services that integrate all forms of digital healthcare, better social recognition and transparent information channels. 🗓️ Manuscript submission deadline: 28 January 2027 👉 Contribute or find out more: https://lnkd.in/ep5AicJW Hosted by Frontiers in Medicine (Impact Factor 3.0, CiteScore 6.0): medicine@frontiersin.org #longCOVID #postCOVID #postCOVIDsyndrome #COVID19 #qualityoflife #primarycare #generalpractice #openaccess

🌟 New eBook! "Uncommon or Rare Forms of Diabetes: From Diagnosis to Management" is now available for download Edited by Valeria Grancini and Andrea Mario Bolla Uncommon and rare forms of diabetes represent a complex and underexplored area within the broader field of diabetology. Unlike the well‑characterized type 1 and type 2 diabetes, these atypical forms - including monogenic, mitochondrial, cystic fibrosis–related, drug‑induced, and syndromic diabetes - pose unique diagnostic and management challenges due to their heterogeneity and low prevalence. Misdiagnosis or delayed recognition can lead to inappropriate treatment and an increased risk of long‑term complications. This Research Topic gathers the latest knowledge on the diagnosis, management, and treatment of uncommon and rare forms of diabetes, with the aim of fostering a holistic understanding of rare diabetes subtypes and promoting better clinical outcomes. 👉 Download the eBook or browse the collection: https://lnkd.in/ex-jE_wj Published in Frontiers in Medicine (Impact Factor 3.0, CiteScore 6.0) medicine@frontiersin.org #diabetes #rarediseases #endocrinopathies #openaccess

📢 Call for papers - Frontiers in Medicine The article collection "Precision Medicine and Stakeholders: Where do we stand and how to enhance the role of involved stakeholders?" is now open to submissions! Led by Drs. Margarita-Ioanna Koufaki, Mohamed Nagy, Maha Saber-Ayad, Coen Wiegman Pharmacogenomics (PGx) holds transformative potential for modern medicine, enabling tailored treatment plans based on an individual's genetic profile. Yet despite rapid scientific progress, adoption of PGx testing in clinical practice remains limited. Barriers including low stakeholder awareness, unresolved cost-effectiveness questions, and the challenge of ensuring clinical evidence keeps pace with technological enthusiasm continue to slow implementation. This Research Topic examines the current landscape of PGx adoption through the lens of its many stakeholders—patients, clinicians, pharmacists, insurers, policymakers, and beyond. It explores the attitudes, knowledge gaps, and perceptions that shape uptake across diverse healthcare systems and cultural contexts, recognising that the path to integration looks different depending on where you are in the world. By bringing together perspectives on economic evaluation, evidence-based implementation, regulatory considerations, and awareness strategies, this collection aims to generate actionable insights that can meaningfully accelerate the responsible and equitable adoption of PGx testing globally. 🗓️ Manuscript submission deadline: 30 December 2026 👉 Contribute or find out more: https://lnkd.in/dN7EKv_V #Pharmacogenomics #Perceptions #InformationalStrategies #Stakeholders #Intentions #OpenAccess #PalliativeCare hashtag #PrecisionMedicine hashtag #Pharmacogenomics hashtag #OpenAccess
