Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the workplace, creating both new opportunities and real concerns for workers and organizations. A recent article from the IMF highlights several important trends: • 𝗡𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝟰𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗜-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲. While many roles will evolve rather than disappear, the impact across industries will be significant. • 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹. Around 1 in 10 job postings in advanced economies now require at least one new skill that was not previously expected. • 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. Roles requiring new capabilities often offer 3–15% higher wages. • 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲-𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲, particularly routine office jobs that are easier to automate. • 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴, as AI begins to take on tasks traditionally handled by early-career professionals. What is becoming clear is that the future of work will depend not only on technological progress, but on how effectively organizations, institutions, and leaders support people in adapting to change. Access to reskilling, lifelong learning, and mobility will be critical to ensuring that innovation creates opportunity for more people.
