THE Swiss Life Sciences Society!

Info

Life Sciences Switzerland (LS2) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing biological sciences within Swiss Academic Community, and to addressing the social and ethical issues raised by the rapid progress of life sciences. We support researchers by organising events and workshops, distribute young investigator travel grants, reach out to the public and its partner societies, and provide a network to foster scientific exchange. Originally founded around Prof. Eward Weibel as USGEB (Union of Swiss Societies for Experimental Biology) in 1969, the society has a history of nearly 50 years in federating researchers from various Life Sciences disciplines and in promoting their interests towards the public. In 2012, USGEB changed its name to LS2 (Life Sciences Switzerland) under the presidency of Prof. Gisou van der Goot (EPFL). In 2016 three of the founding societies merged, making LS2 the largest Life Sciences Society in Switzerland. LS2 is the society that integrates all facets of the life sciences, from Biochemistry to Physiology. We are actively reaching out to partner societies, organising workshops and meetings and provide travel grants for young researchers to kick-start their academic career. If you are interested in joining LS2, please register online (https://www.ls2.ch/join). LS2 is member of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT). SCNAT provides substantial funding to LS2 that make our actions and events possible.

We are delighted to finally be able to publicly announce the reform proposed by Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) to replace the Postdoc Mobility and Ambizione fundings by a new scheme that aims at empowering researchers, and providing a clear career path. actionuni has been involved in the various stages of this reform; we have been consulted and our views have been taken into account. We would like to warmly thank Fonds national suisse FNS for this very fruitful collaboration. This highly productive collaboration is the result of years of hard work and campaigning on our part, as well as the institution’s willingness to reflect on and improve its practices. Thank you to all our colleagues who took part in these protests and demonstrations. We hope that this transformation is only the beginning of a much deeper change in academic structure and culture. Among other things, we will continue to contribute to social insurance during postdoctoral fellowships; stays abroad will no longer be compulsory; and our autonomy will be strengthened, thereby limiting — though not eliminating — the risk of sexual and psychological harassment. https://lnkd.in/eMTQWvcU
