March 2025 data reveals continued growth in global passenger demand rising 3.3% YoY. However, capacity expansion outpaced demand, leading to a slight dip in load factors across regions. 🌎 🔹 International travel demand rose 4.9%, but load factors dropped 1.7 % points. 🔹 Domestic air travel posted a marginal 0.9%, gain weighed down by declines in the US and Australian markets. 🔹 Asia-Pacific remains the strongest regional performer, reporting a 9.9% growth in demand. While air travel continues its upward trajectory, challenges persist, including supply chain constraints, airport capacity pressures, and economic uncertainties. We urge Mumbai International Airport Limited (CSMIA) to immediately withdraw these cuts and instead urgently engage with the #airline industry in meaningful consultations to minimize disruptions to airline operations, inconvenience to #passengers, and loss of air connectivity for #Mumbai. #aviation #airports #slots #aircargo
IATA is surprised and deeply disappointed that Mumbai International Airport Limited (CSMIA) has informed airlines of the unilateral cessation of cargo freighter flights, and a seemingly permanent withdrawal of historic slots for passenger airlines beginning next season. This is not what one would expect of a major hub airport in India, and will cause long-lasting damage to the airport’s reputation and credibility. The discriminatory impact on cargo operations and on certain operators also raises the specter of reciprocal impact under bilateral air services agreements. Full statement at the link below.

Air cargo demand rose by 4.4% in March 2025 vs the same period last year, marking an all-time high for March! 📈✈️. 🔹 Key Highlights: ➡️ Capacity expanded by 4.3% YoY, closely matching demand growth. ➡️ Jet fuel prices fell 17.3% YoY, marking 9 straight months of YoY declines. ➡️ Global trade activity surged, with world industrial output up 3.2% and trade volumes growing 2.9%. ➡️ The Europe-North America route was the busiest trade lane in March. The largest trade lane by market share, Asia-North America, also grew strongly, possibly encouraged by front-loading shipments ahead of potential increased tariffs. 💬 IATA Director General, Willie Walsh emphasized the role of geopolitical uncertainties, fuel price trends, and trade policies in shaping #aircargo performance. "Throughout its history, IATA has been an enabling body for airlines to do the hard work of building the global networks that connect our world today. On any anniversary, it’s natural to remind ourselves of the achievements that link to present day successes.
