Grateful to be part of the legal team led by Senior Advocate Mr Manish Tiwari, which secured a no-coercive action order from the Hon’ble High Court of Judicature at Allahabad The order is founded on the settled legal principle that a scheduled (predicate) offence is a sine qua non for proceedings under the PMLA. Reliance was placed on the landmark judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Vijay Madanlal Choudhary v. Union of India, 2022 SCC OnLine SC 929, which authoritatively held that PMLA proceedings can continue only so long as a scheduled offence exists or survives. In the absence, extinguishment, or stay of the predicate offence, PMLA proceedings cannot be sustained. Further reliance was placed on the decision of the High Court of Karnataka in Mantri Developers Pvt. Ltd. v. Directorate of Enforcement (14.12.2022), where it was held that the existence of a scheduled offence is a jurisdictional fact and a condition precedent for the ED to exercise its investigative powers, and that PMLA proceedings must be stayed when the predicate offence itself is stayed. In a one-of-a-kind order, the Hon’ble Allahabad High Court directed that the ED shall refrain from pursuing or continuing any investigation, inquiry, summons, searches, seizures, attachment, or any other coercive measures in the matter. A significant reaffirmation of personal liberty and statutory limits on investigative jurisdiction. Today, my sister Ms. Srishti Singh has sworn in as a Solicitor and admitted as a Legal Practitioner by the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. She is a graduate of The Australian National University (ANU), one of Australia’s leading law schools. My grandfather was a farmer and a village school teacher. My father was a first-generation lawyer Office of Advocate Partap Singh, not a graduate of any “top” law school in India, but he and my mother shared a simple, powerful dream: that their children would have access to education. Of course along with our own merit! Today, I am humbled to work with brilliant minds in New York, be among the graduates of Columbia University (prestigious ivy league institute) and my sister is practising law in the capital of Australia. Both my parents worked hard their entire lives to give us access to fair and meaningful education. The part LinkedIn posts often leave out is the years of hard work and quiet sacrifice one generation puts in so that the next generation can dream. That is the real story. This morning, I was admitted as a lawyer in the ACT Supreme Court. It still feels surreal to say those words. On my 6th birthday, I went into a coma. After months of living in a hospital, my parents were told I would never have a normal life. They said I required special care moving forward in life. In that moment and the ones that followed, my mum reminded me, I was going to live bigger, act bigger and achieve bigger than most. So I did. I fought every circumstance, studied 16 hours a day for years and moved to Australia at the age of 18. I had decided I was going to be an Australian lawyer. Living big, acting big and achieving big was all I knew. I cannot express my gratitude to my father (a lawyer) who inspired me and took care of me through every step of this journey. My mum believed in me when medical sciences did not. She made me the woman I am. And I have no words to thank my brother Parth Singh enough for being the most inspiring sibling I could ever ask for. I would not be here without Joseph Tallarita, my supervisor for last 2 years who has taught me everything I know. He has been a legal practitioner in the ACT and NSW for 45 years and continues to inspire me everyday. Special thanks to Kathryn L. who has guided me throughout my years in Australia and supported me on this special day. Thank you to everyone who guided, encouraged, challenged, and believed in me - this achievement belongs to all of us. Here’s to new beginnings and meaningful work ahead.

I am 26 years old and now I am a Dual LL.M. holder, one from the prestigious Ivy League, Columbia University, New York (Corporate Law, Administrative Law, and Human Rights), & another from the Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai (White-Collar Crime and Comparative Public Law). I am also now a Quadruple Master’s Graduate, gaining deeper academic learnings from leading institutions such as National Law School of India University, Bangalore and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. Not to miss my foundation, Bachelors of Arts & Law, B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) - (J.D equivalent) from Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), Sonipat. My professors, admin, seniors, and friends, who inspired and transformed me to this journey here. At Columbia Law School, I traveled, made wonderful & beautiful friends (this post would go too long if I had to mention each one of them), joined the Smith Family Human Rights Clinic, served as a research assistant, and worked several late night hours as a staff editor for the Columbia Human Rights Law Review. As I reflect the entire year now, I also completed 31 credits, well above the 24-credit requirement, and earned the Parker Certificate of Achievement in International and Comparative Law. Probably my love to hear and learn from as many professors as I can during my time here. My academic journey would be incomplete without acknowledging my senior, Hon’ble Mr. Justice M. M. Sundresh, Judge of the Supreme Court of India. I was privileged to serve as his young Law Clerk at the age of 22, and he has been both a mentor and a father figure, patiently teaching me the very “alphabet” of this noble profession.
