Rogelio Cruz Gonzalez, Glen Phillips, Kelly Lau and Isaac Vestby recently won first place at the TECHNATION Interac U-Innovate Challenge for their intelligent finance concept TrustRail. For Cruz Gonzalez, the opportunity to present the idea directly to senior leadership was a defining moment. "There is a persistent gap between the boardroom and the classroom, and it rarely gets bridged in any meaningful way. For students, access to that level of dialogue is not just motivating, it is formative," he writes. Read the story: https://lnkd.in/gnUmG6ZA

Today, February 23, marks my 23rd work anniversary at EY, a milestone that has given me the opportunity to grow, learn, and contribute alongside incredible people. I truly appreciated the many thoughtful messages and words of congratulations I've received during the month, thank you for taking the time to reach out and share in the moment. I was pleased to recognize the milestone today, by participating in the TECHNATION x EY “AI for Us” event, focused on AI and equity. As part of the program, I joined a panel discussion exploring why diversity and inclusion are essential to building responsible, trustworthy AI, and how intentional design and decision making can help ensure technology delivers equitable outcomes for all communities. Thank you to TECHNATION for the partnership through EY Ripples, and to my fellow panelists Nathalie DiBerardino and Yoelit Lipinsky, PhD for their thoughtful insights and meaningful contributions to the conversation. Engaging with students and emerging leaders on these topics was both energizing and inspiring. This event took place during a month of important reflection and recognition. As we observe Black History Month, we also acknowledge 30 years of Black History recognition in Canada and the 10 year anniversary of EY’s Black Professional Network (BPN),milestones that reinforce the importance of sustained commitment to equity, representation, and opportunity. I appreciate the continued leadership support that enables these partnerships and conversations, and I’m proud to be part of a firm that continues to invest in shaping a more inclusive future with confidence. #EYCanada #TECHNATION #AIandEquity #ResponsibleAI #BlackHistoryMonth #Inclusion #Leadership #ShapeTheFutureWithConfidence

  • TECHNATION is proud to spotlight Madison Edwards, Career Ready Program Coordinator, who attended the 30th Anniversary of Black History Month in Canada at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau. Hosted by The Honourable Marc Miller, the event brought together national leaders to honour Black excellence across generations while reinforcing an important message: as technology continues to shape the future of work, intentional inclusion and equitable access to opportunity are critical to ensuring Black talent is not just participating, but leading. Reflections from speakers, including Prime Minister Mark Carney and The Hon. Jean Augustine, emphasized the importance of mentorship, representation, and creating pathways for emerging Black leaders across sectors. TECHNATION’s ongoing commitment to advancing equity across Canada’s tech ecosystem and supporting the next generation of innovators is reflected in Madison’s work on the BNEXT initiative through our Career Ready Program, as well as her participation at this event. #BHM2026 | Sankofa Cultural Troupe | Brandon Gonez

🥈On February 4th, along with Alice Nguyen, Johnny Hu, and Stephanie Li , we had the opportunity to present at the Design Exchange in Toronto alongside six other finalist teams from across Canada and were honored to receive national 2nd place at the Interac × TECHNATION U-Innovate Challenge. We focused on one big question: 💡As the landscape shifts toward agentic commerce, how can Interac empower the way people connect, collaborate, and transact in a digital world? Our solution proposed an agentic, in-chat checkout experience powered by Konek, Interac’s e-commerce payment solution, to enable seamless payments within agentic AI while preserving bank-backed verification and user control. The solution came from rounds of discussion as we worked to understand the transaction cycle end-to-end: how payments flow, who the key players are, and where value and risk sit across the system. At the same time, we explored what agentic AI can actually do in commerce, and pushed ourselves to think forward about how this shift could reshape daily life for Canadians. A huge thank you to Interac Corp. and TECHNATION for organizing such an amazing event, and to the judges: Debbie Gamble, ICD.D, Sandi Campbell, Vasiliki (Vass) B., Sudha Dwivedi, BA, MBA, CPCC, and Mario Falvo, CPA CA CRM, who generously devoted their time and challenged us with thoughtful questions. One of the most exciting moments was learning that Interac’s Innovation team has been exploring similar directions internally. That validation made the experience even more meaningful. Conversations with James Lucas, Eric Sotkowy, Michelle Cochrane, Iroj Gurung, Steevens Rouyard, and Shilpa Arora gave us a more well-rounded view of where the payments landscape is headed and getting to know the people actively shaping it. As a young Canadian who interacts with the transaction system every day, I’m genuinely excited to keep learning from this space, and to see what the future of payments in Canada looks like next!
