Their CEO Kevin Dagenais also presented on optimized refueling at CIM, a credible validation of the work we're doing together. 🎯 At the SIF panel: Our Principal Scientist, EHS, Emily Tetzlaff, PhD, alongside Nelson Bodnarchuk, Lori-Anne Fleming, Michael Hartley, Ameni Ben Ammar, and Joshua Tepper of Teck Resources Limited — building Canada's first national SIF prevention database together. The case for cross-industry collaboration on safety isn't theoretical. Canada has 13 separate health and safety legislations; fragmentation has measurable cost in lives. 🎯 The foundation underneath: Underpinning every collaboration this week is the integrated stack our teams have built. From Emily's field-based research on integrating SmartCap EEG-based fatigue monitoring with Wenco FMS reflects what's possible when our R&D, product, sales, services, and leadership teams build toward shared outcomes. Last week, our CEO, John Mern, PhD, took the stage at CIM CONNECT in Vancouver on "The Silicon Valley Model: Rethinking Mining Investment," a panel that cut into a question the industry keeps circling: why does mining still underinvest relative to its risk-return profile? 💸 Mining invests $50–80B for growth annually while global VC deployed $450B in 2025. With similar risk profiles in both investment sectors, the gap is in how companies treat risk - venture seeks disciplined risk taking and expects companies to clearly communicate and manage the risk-return trade. Informing risk and quantifying uncertainty provides investors with clarity, unlocking cross-sector confidence and investment. 📊 There’s a lot of data in mining, but it’s underutilized. AI’s role is to increase the amount of information extracted from existing data, quickly, from the early stages of mine development. Overall, better information will accelerate investment clarity, stakeholder alignment, and permitting. As mineral demand brings new capital to the market, the Silicon Valley Model for mining investment underscores the importance of data, technology, and information to enable alignment, confidence, and trust across stakeholders to develop the resources of the future. Orica Blasting Part 2: The Power of 4D™ Underground Bulk Technology in Mining WATCH: https://lnkd.in/gNaXtkjj Underground mining is getting deeper, more complex, and less predictable. Traditional blasting systems often force engineers to compromise on energy distribution, leading to challenges in fragmentation, dilution control, and downstream efficiency. In this episode of Mining NOW, host Jerrod Downey sits down with Orica specialists Ben Taylor and Adam Aubin from Orica to explore how 4D™ Underground Bulk Technology is addressing these challenges through in-hole energy control. 4D™ allows energy to be varied within a single blasthole using advanced emulsion chemistry, automated delivery systems, and digital control. This enables mines to better match energy to geology, improve blast precision, reduce overbreak, and increase ore recovery while improving overall operational consistency. The discussion also highlights how automation and digital tools are reducing variability and improving execution underground. Grateful for the opportunity to present my research at the CIM CONNECT in Vancouver. It was a great experience to discuss my work on AI applications in industrial safety and risk management with industry professionals from different sectors.
