“Vlad isn't just an amazing engineer. He's an amazing person, who happens to be an engineer. He's equally excited to jump elbow deep into legacy codebases and to start greenfield projects and see them through to production. But just as important as his engineering skills - he's a culture creator. When things become tense, he's always ready with a charming parable or hilarious joke. I'll miss Vlad, and I sincerely hope that I'll get to work with him again someday.”

The ultrasonic-assistant techniques for treatment of metals and alloys have been developed. Mainly, three methods of ultrasonics application are discussed: ultrasonic deformation of metals and alloys; mechanical alloying of metals by the high power ultrasonics; manufacturing of composite materials by means of ultrasonics. Ultrasonic deformation has been used for pressing of powder materials in order to increase the density of the final powder mixture. Common plastic deformation in the ultrasonic field make it possible to produce the (NiTi + Cu) composite material which displays the phase transformation and shape memory phenomena coming from NiTi, and simultaneously has a good electric and heat conductivities coming from Cu-matrix. The (CuAlNi + Al) composite material has been obtained by crystallization of a molten aluminium alloy with the disperse particles of CuAlNi in ultrasonic field. The ultrasonics has been used in order to increase the strength of the boundary between CuAlNi and aluminium matrix by increasing the wetting of disperse particles in molten alloy and to increase the homogeneity of the composite. Application of high power ultrasonics for mechanical alloying of SMA is also discussed.Other authors -

I was involved in several “hybrid” hardware-software projects that involved a fusion of web technologies, mobile APIs, and lower-level device interfaces. One such project was diVA (for 2C Visual Communications / Jigsaw Interactions), an interactive sensor-based presentation platform. Some photos of its application can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2c-visualcommunications/. One such project was diVA (for 2C Visual Communications / Jigsaw Interactions), an interactive sensor-based presentation platform. Some photos of its application can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2c-visualcommunications/. The interesting thing about this project was that it was not just a single product, but an extensible interactive framework with an API, enabling communications between distance sensors, cameras, temperature and humidity sensors, cell phones, Arduino-based devices, and high-precision video control software. The project was written in Python, using Twisted framework and ExtJS-based UI for the webapp portion of the project, proprietary C-based firmware for sensor devices, C-based apps for Arduino, and .NET compact framework for Windows phones.
