Great first session last night kicking off techNL's AI Skills Launchpad for SaaS Sales! I’m excited to be instructing an awesome first cohort over the next 8 weeks. Newfoundland’s tech ecosystem is growing fast, and the demand for sales talent is growing with it. NL tech companies plan to hire 150+ sales professionals this year 📈. A huge opportunity for local talent, and a signal that upskilling matters. The BDR role is one of the best ways to break into tech sales, yet many people still don’t know what the role actually is or what it takes to succeed. TechNL is doing great work to help close that gap. This program was designed and is being taught by people working in industry every day. In my sessions, we’ll cover what sales teams really do in a SaaS company, how AI tools are being leveraged in modern sales, and go deep on the BDR role - from pipeline generation and outbound strategies, to what companies actually look for when hiring. CRMs are a double-edged sword. Yes, they offer visibility. Yes, they assist with reporting. But if your sales managers are spending more time updating fields than coaching reps, something’s broken. If your team's working for the CRM instead of the CRM working for the team, you’re not building a pipeline; you’re just maintaining dashboards. 👉 A healthy pipeline isn’t the result of perfectly filled forms. It’s the result of high-leverage activities: - Live deal reviews - Objection handling, - Role-playing, - and helping reps sharpen their judgment. That’s why I appreciate tools like Attio. It’s simple and yet powerful with use cases such as: - Real-time collaboration with flexible data views, - Automatic company and contact data enrichment, - and a UI that doesn’t make you feel like you’re stuck in 2009! It actually feels good to use—and that’s rare for CRMs. You don't need to live in it to maintain it. What portion of their time, should Sales Managers spend in CRMs?
