Government of Saskatchewan - implement Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP province-wide for K-12 and secondary institutions

The government of Saskatchewan was looking for a province-wide solution to implement at K-12 and other educational organizations. Open Door went through a selection process, competing against entrenched industry specialists, and won a contract to provide an education solution to approximately 90 organizations. After implementing the first two K-12 divisions, the province decided, on very short notice, to consolidate nearly 100 divisions down to 28. This added significant complexities and pressures as up to 9 divisions could be combined into one with as high as 23 collective agreements. In many cases, the location of the combined administration offices and the transitioning employees had not yet been decided. Open Door was responsible for converting over 20 of the new organizations, plus a few local colleges. The project required developing new functionality including the Education Suite, a not for profit addition to Dynamics NAV with significant enhancements to the financial, human resources, and payroll modules. This required the development of a "fund accounting lite" capability plus a .net web portal to allow schools to carry out a number of remote functions including purchasing and financial analysis.

A growing oilfield service company, located in Calgary, Alberta, selected Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) from Open Door Technology. The solution involved developing major enhancements to payroll and invoicing to integrate with field service tickets (tour sheets) downloaded from third party software running on the drilling rigs. An approval process was designed for both payroll and invoicing, to allow them to review the transactions, make adjustments, and approve them for inclusion in Dynamics NAV. The rapid growth of the company required optimizing the payroll system to allow it to efficiently process several thousand employees and print out year-end tax forms. The Dynamics NAV project resulted in significant processing efficiencies for the organization and allowed it to grow several times in size without significant system changes.

Conversion of Calgary Airport Authority ERP system from federal to local authority
-
In the early 1990's the Calgary Airport Authority transitioned from a federally run agency to a local authority, necessitating a change in accounting systems. This required significant re-organization and creativity in moving from three different accounting systems to one unified group. I was responsible for the pre-sales and implementation effort as we implemented Platinum for DOS software for the changeover, resulting in significant efficiencies and reporting improvements.
