According to a recent report by the BBC News, Canada's tech industry is expected to continue growing, with a projected value of over $150 billion by 2025 (www.bbc.com). Artificial Intelligence: A Key Driver of Growth Artificial intelligence (AI) is a key area of focus for Canada's tech sector, with many companies investing heavily in research and development. AI has the potential to transform industries such as healthcare, finance, and manufacturing, and Canada is well-positioned to take advantage of this trend. As reported by AOL.com, Canada is home to some of the world's leading AI research institutions, including the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia (www.aol.com). Cybersecurity: A Growing Concern As technology advances, cybersecurity is becoming an increasingly important issue for businesses and individuals alike. Canada's tech sector is responding to this challenge, with many companies specializing in cybersecurity solutions. Government Support for the Tech Sector The Canadian government has been actively supporting the tech sector, recognizing its potential for growth and job creation. Initiatives such as the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario's (FedDev Ontario) funding for tech startups and the Canada Media Fund's support for digital media production are just a few examples of the government's efforts to promote the sector (www.aol.com). Conclusion Canada's tech sector is poised for continued growth and innovation, with a strong focus on areas such as AI, cybersecurity, and fintech. With government support and a talented workforce, Canada is well-positioned to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the tech sector.

Don't rely on "luck" for your Q2 event attendance. 🍀 With St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, there is a lot of talk about luck. But if you are planning a corporate workshop or a tech meetup in the GTA this spring, luck shouldn't be part of your strategy. As a marketer, I often hear organizers ask for that "magic button" to instantly boost ticket sales. Let’s be completely honest: That magic doesn't exist. A software platform doesn't sell your event; your content and your community do. But what an event platform should do is remove every single obstacle in the attendee's way. Organizers choose EventGo for their Q2 events because we don't deal in luck. We deal in frictionless experiences: ✨ We maximize visibility: We don't promise fake sales; we ensure your event page is optimized so more of the right professionals actually see it. ✨ We protect your brand: Our premium, modern design aesthetics ensure your digital invitation looks as high-end as your actual event. ✨ We eliminate drop-offs: A seamless, zero-friction checkout flow means you never lose a frustrated guest to a clunky webpage. Stop hoping for a packed room. Start building a frictionless path to the door.

Canada – Manitoba: Provincial Sales Tax on Cloud Computing Services from January 1, 2026 Starting January 1, 2026, Manitoba will significantly expand the scope of services subject to Retail Sales Tax (RST). The Manitoba Department of Finance has confirmed that cloud computing services supplied to customers located in the province will become taxable, regardless of where the underlying servers are hosted. 🔸 What is changing 🔹 Cloud-based services will be subject to Manitoba RST when supplied to customers whose place of business or residence is in the province 🔹 The change applies even if the servers are located outside of Manitoba 🔹 This marks a clear shift from the previous framework, where remote access to out-of-province servers was generally out of scope 🔸 Services in scope 🔹 SaaS Software as a Service 🔹 IaaS Infrastructure as a Service 🔹 PaaS Platform as a Service 🔹 Access to software installed on remote servers without local downloading 🔸 What remains unchanged 🔹 Packaged or prewritten software has already been taxable under RST 🔹 Custom software developed to meet the specific needs of a single customer remains exempt 🔸 Place of supply implications 🔹 Taxability is determined by the customer’s location in Manitoba, not by server location 🔹 This aligns Manitoba with broader Canadian and international trends in taxing digital services at destination 🔸 Compliance expectations for non-resident providers 🔹 Non-resident cloud and digital service providers should assess whether they exceed federal or provincial sales tax thresholds 🔹 Once registered, providers must charge, collect, and remit Manitoba RST on taxable supplies 🔹 Ongoing compliance will be closely monitored through advanced online sales tax tracking systems This reform represents a major shift in compliance for cloud and digital service providers supplying Manitoba customers. Interested to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eXRBA_Yc 💬 Are your cloud or SaaS services exposed to Manitoba RST from 2026? How are you preparing your tax engines and registration strategy for this change? #CanadaTax #ManitobaRST #CloudComputing #DigitalServices #SalesTax #SaaS #EcommerceCompliance #IndirectTax

AI is no longer just changing how Canadians work — it is beginning to reshape how they think about their careers. A new study from Toronto-based Borderless AI found that 46% of employed Canadians say AI has already impacted their long-term career growth, with many workers actively building new skills around the technology. But the shift is not being felt evenly. Younger workers, university-educated Canadians, and those navigating a tighter labour market are feeling the pressure most acutely — even as traditional concerns like wages, job security, flexibility, and career advancement remain top of mind. The study also points to a major opportunity for employers: Canadian workers are open to AI, but they are still making career decisions based on compensation, flexibility, security, and growth. https://lnkd.in/eswGCwEK

📧 Phishing Emails: Why We Still Fall for Them (and Why Retraining Matters) Despite ongoing training efforts, phishing emails continue to succeed—not because employees don’t know better, but because in the rush of a normal workday, it’s easy to let our guard down. Just last quarter, several companies experienced breaches that started with a simple click on a well-crafted phishing email. These weren’t cases of ignorance. In fact, most of the employees involved had completed security awareness training. So what went wrong? 👉 Complacency: Over time, people get used to “seeing” phishing attempts and begin to assume they’ll always recognize one. 👉 Context matters: A message from a “colleague” about an urgent task can bypass critical thinking—especially under pressure. 👉 Attackers adapt: Phishing tactics are constantly evolving. What seemed obvious six months ago may now look legitimate. 🧠 Why Retraining Is Critical Cybersecurity isn’t a one-and-done effort. Just like CPR or fire drills, repetition builds instinct. Ongoing, realistic simulations and refreshers: ✅ Reinforce vigilance in everyday scenarios ✅ Expose employees to new phishing techniques ✅ Encourage a culture of “pause and verify” It’s not about blame—it’s about readiness. Phishing will always be a moving target. Our defense is only as strong as our current awareness. Let’s stay sharp. #CyberSecurity #PhishingAwareness #EmployeeTraining #InfoSec #SecurityCulture #RetrainingMatters www.mirtech.ca

Bold New Edge

Two key insights stood out to us from Le Wagon Canada’s recent white paper Navigating the Canadian Job Market: 🔹 AI is increasing the value of human workers, not diminishing it. The report shows that AI strengthens human capabilities and raises the importance of uniquely human skills, rather than replacing them. 🔹 The global shift is already happening. Across all industries studied, companies are increasing their adoption of AI, a clear sign that this transformation is universal and not sector-specific. These findings reinforce what we observe every day at Bold New Edge, where our work focuses on helping companies navigate this shift with confidence. Happy to support Le Wagon in amplifying the publication of their findings. At Bold New Edge, we see firsthand how both technical skills and human-centric skills remain in high demand across Canada. Our program, AI for Decision Makers, equips leaders with the literacy, frameworks and tools needed to: - assess their organization’s readiness for AI, - identify the most valuable use cases, - and de-risk adoption by building a tailored AI roadmap and prototype. But decision-makers also need their teams trained with complementary skills; that’s where Le Wagon plays a crucial role. This is why we support their work: our missions are complementary, empowering organizations to build the workforce they need for the AI era. We encourage you to download their white paper and pay special attention to the section on AI’s impact on the job market — it’s full of valuable insights. And if your organization is thinking of starting its AI journey, our next cohort of AI for Decision Makers begins on January 12. Happy to chat if you want details. https://lnkd.in/ea-85Thh Congratulations, Marie-Gabrielle et Antoine, for this important initiative. #AI #AIforDecisionMakers #AIforManufacturing #AItraining #TechSkillsThatMatter #TechTraining
