They don't have to "sell" what they did anymore. That landed harder than any metric I could point to, and I wanted to share what got me there. It's not a product pitch. ML6 Search + Talent Advisory • 12K followers
#EngineersEdge your Friday fix! Recruitment in Canada Is Changing — And So Is the Talent Market within Engineering. The current economic climate in Canada is shifting hiring dynamics in a big way. We’re seeing something we haven’t experienced in years: 📈 Higher applicant volume 🎯 Stronger, more qualified candidates actively applying ⏱️ Faster movement in the market On the surface, more applicants sounds like good news. But internally, it often means overwhelmed hiring teams, clogged inboxes, and difficulty separating strong talent from “apply-to-everything” submissions. This is where the role of a third-party recruiter has evolved. At ML6, we are not just headhunters. We are not resume finders. We are consultants to your entire hiring process. Especially right now, organizations need to be: Nimble in decision-making Time-sensitive in securing top talent Efficient in filtering through high applicant volume Intentional about candidate experience And let’s not forget the regulatory landscape is changing too. With the introduction of the Working for Workers Four Act, 2024 (Bill 149) in Ontario, employers with 25+ employees must now: ✔️ Include expected compensation or compensation ranges in job postings ✔️ Disclose the use of AI in screening or selection ✔️ Clarify whether a vacancy actually exists ✔️ Notify interviewed candidates of their status (the new “duty to inform” requirement aimed at ending candidate ghosting) These changes are positive for transparency and candidate fairness — but they also add complexity and accountability to hiring processes. This is where the right recruitment partner matters. A strong third-party partner helps you: Quickly sift through unqualified applicants Protect and elevate your employer brand Stay compliant with new legislation Streamline your process from intake to offer Deliver a candidate experience that reflects your values In today’s market, recruitment isn’t just about filling roles. It’s about strategy, compliance, efficiency, and brand. If your team is feeling the pressure of increased volume and new obligations, let’s talk about how to build a hiring process that works for you — not against you. #Hiring #Recruitment #Ontario #WorkingForWorkers #TalentStrategy #ML6 #Leadership

#Fridayfix - The Engineers Edge As someone connected with many talented engineers in the rail and transit industries, I wanted to highlight this exciting project and share my enthusiasm for continuing to grow my involvement in Canada’s most significant infrastructure initiatives and servicing the hiring of these talented players with ML6 Search + Talent Advisory The federal government has officially launched the next phase of what will become the largest infrastructure project in Canadian history: a high-speed rail line connecting Quebec City to Toronto. Dubbed Alto, this all-electric network will span ~1,000 km and reach speeds of up to 300 km/h — getting travelers from Montréal to Toronto in just three hours. Stops will include Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa, Montréal, Laval, Trois-Rivières, and Quebec City. The selected consortium, Cadence, will co-design, build, finance, operate, and maintain the project. This powerhouse team includes: CDPQ Infra AtkinsRéalis Keolis SYSTRA Air Canada SNCF Voyageurs The initial investment of $3.9 billion over six years to finalize route and station planning — paving the way for the construction phase. “A high-speed rail network is not a luxury. It is a necessity,” said CEO of VIA HFR, Martin Imbleau. With highways overloaded, airports stretched, and intercity travel increasingly unreliable, this initiative is more than overdue — it’s transformative. This is a monumental step forward in building a faster, greener, more connected Canada. #Infrastructure #HighSpeedRail #Canada #AltoRail #SustainableTransport #Innovation #PublicTransit #Toronto #Montreal #Ottawa #FutureOfTransport

The evolving landscape demands a fresh perspective to effectively hire and excel in a dynamic environment. Adapting to the changing requirements is paramount for organizational success in the face of technological disruptions but folks will be adamant doing it the old way- can we survive?.

Check out this resource "Terrestrial Cumulative Effects Initiative Toolkit" — a portal by Environment and Climate Change Canada / Canadian federal government. It could assist with: ✳ Scenario Planning Made Easier: The site presents multiple plausible future storylines (scenarios) for climate, ecosystems, and socio-economic trends. These are essential for long-term planning and stress testing of environmental and infrastructure decisions. ✳ Data + Visualization: It’s not just numbers — the interactive maps and visual tools make it possible to see “if this happens, then that may occur” in geographic / spatial terms. This helps ground abstract climate models in something you can map. ✳ Policy & Strategy Ready: Whether you’re working on mitigation, adaptation, conservation, or resilience, this resource helps align strategy with likely trajectories — giving you better foresight and more credible scenarios. It can be used for: ✳ Municipal and regional climate adaptation plans 👷♀️ ✳ Ecosystem restoration prioritization 🐦 ✳ Infrastructure investment risk-assessment 🚧 ✳ Education & awareness: helping communities & stakeholders see what different futures could look like If you work in environmental management, planning, academia, or even government, I highly recommend checking this out. It’s tools like this that help us move from reacting to anticipating. Looking back at 2024, it was a hallmark year in the BCMEA’s efforts to drive workforce planning and enhanced data governance. Last spring, we received $2.2M from Transport Canada to accelerate the launch of the WaterfrontWorks program, a cutting-edge digital solution that is helping our members make more informed investments in workforce training and recruitment. By using predictive analytics and scenario planning WaterfrontWorks identifies issues in advance, allowing for strategic investments in training, upskilling and recruiting to match longshore labour requirements to meet the demands at Canada’s West Coast ports. We’re proud be doing our part to advance innovative solutions and the digitalization of Canada’s supply chain.
