Where the sustainability solutions market really is today At KanataQ, we analyzed more than 400 sustainability solution providers across markets, client profiles, and organizational scale, and brought these insights together in our State of Sustainability Solutions report. We found that the market is young but maturing fast. 81% of active providers were founded between 2018 and 2024. Most are still operating with lean teams but are increasingly serving larger, more complex enterprise clients. • 70% of providers have fewer than 50 employees • Yet 36% already serve 11–50 clients and 29% serve 51–200 • Only 11% serve 200+ clients, and 10% have 200+ employees This explains several shifts we’re seeing across the market: • Consolidation is accelerating as providers buy or merge to scale faster. • Buyers are moving from compliance tools toward integrated systems that support value creation. • SaaS combined with advisory support is gaining traction where enterprise complexity is highest. Ever felt like you’re in a “Forever” contract with 2-3 extensions, infinite documentation requests, and maybe one day it will crawl over the finish line? One of the most important ways I’ve learned to help avoid the “Forever” due diligence period is by addressing the Buyer’s DD checklist upfront in the LOI stage of the negotiations. Recently, we’ve received a few LOIs on our listings which state that the DD period doesn’t start until the Buyer has received all the requested DD from the Seller. ❓What happens if the Seller doesn’t have a requested DD item? Buyer will request additional time. ❓What if the Buyer keeps adding onto the DD list? You guessed it, more time. 💡Our solution, we ask the Buyer to provide us their entire Due Diligence checklist before signing a PSA. ➡️ We then provide the checklist to the Seller and ask them to circle each item they don’t have or cannot provide. Any documents we don’t already have we request then add it into our DD vault. 🔚 Then we send the marked up checklist back to the Buyer and say this is what the Seller can & cannot provide. *Can you move forward with this documentation ⁉️ If yes, the Due Diligence checklist becomes an exhibit to the PSA where the parties agree and the DD period starts immediately upon mutual execution. *Also, watch out for verbiage where the Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) remains refundable even after the expiration or removal of DD contingencies. It’s important to not get caught in “Forever” contracts because you didn’t address certain items upfront. ❓Do you have any helpful tips or suggestions?

Vancouver is proposing big changes to how developers pay DCLs and CACs. Starting mid-2025, developers could defer large fees over time, easing upfront costs. The city is also freezing 2025 inflation increases on these contributions and allowing surety bonds instead of letters of credit.
