Back from my first CERAWeek and… my entire body hurts. I feel out of practice, the slight stability of January and February spoiled me. But alas, conference season begins! This was an opportunity I definitely couldn’t say no to. I had the chance to present Serenity Power Inc. at CERA’s Agora Conference! As a newer start-up, this was insane and as I mentioned before, a bit overwhelming (re: attendee numbers, high-profile speakers)! But, there’s something cool about the startup ecosystem where you get to run into the same incredible humans across cities, countries, and years. Initial online/cold outreach customer discovery conversations that have blossomed into personal mentors, ecosystem builders working start-up hours for founders like us, and founders that you’ve admired from afar, now saying they’re following your journey? CERAWeek felt like a reunion of builders who are all trying to push something forward. Of course a lot of the focus was on the race to power data centres and AI… which makes sense. But at the same time, there are still communities across North America and globally without access to reliable and affordable energy. We need to continue thinking about energy as a basic human right that everyone deserves. And as demand continues to rise, energy and infrastructure are still needed for even the most fundamental applications. I just don’t want us to lose sight of that. Finally, we strengthened relationships across Canada, the USA, and global energy companies, and somehow, the best place to meet Calgarians ended up being in Texas huh. Weeks like this remind me how important endurance is and that this work isn’t easy. It’s long days and TSA lines, middle seats, 3pm wellness shots, losing your voice from too much networking, forgetting to text your mom that you’re alive, trying to remember to have fun, uncertainty… and a sore body by the end of it. But being surrounded by people who are just as committed to building a better energy future and having exciting conversations about all the cool tech makes it so worth it! Time for the follow-ups. Let’s keep going 🚀 Thank you for all of your support on this Texas adventure: Nannette Ho-Covernton, The etc Foundation (Energy Technology Centre), Iklishi Udie, Kasturi Narayanan, Andrew Keenan, NGIF Accelerator, Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN), PTAC Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada, Avatar Innovations.

For the first time in decades, #Canada has reached a key milestone by meeting NATO’s benchmark of spending at least 2% of GDP on defence. This marks a meaningful shift in how Canada is seeing its role in a more complex global landscape. As investment increases, these dollars will translate into advanced infrastructure, resilient supply chains, and stronger defense capabilities. Dual use technologies are a critical part of that equation. These are innovations built for commercial markets that can also support national security needs. ventureLAB supports 90+ companies developing dual use technologies across #AI, #semiconductors, and #advanced #hardware systems. Here is my written award acceptance speech in full: ------ Thank you to the ACCE leadership team and all the volunteers for creating a forum where we can exchange ideas and champion entrepreneurship. I’m also deeply grateful to the selection committee for recognizing the important work my team is doing to ensure AI is safe, secure, and compliant - work that began in Canada and is driven by a truly global ambition and impact. This honor belongs to my incredible team. To my co-founders, David Van Bruwaene and Anna Felländer; our CTO Samantha Chan; our CRO Eric Klimstra; our Head of AI Policy Hassan P.; and our entire staff - thank you for your dedication and belief in what we’re building together. And to our investors, partners, advisors, mentors, and customers: thank you for working with us to build a better world. To my husband and children: thank you for your love and the sacrifices you make behind the scenes. You are my foundation. And to my parents, aunts, and uncle who are here tonight from Ottawa: you are the true pioneers on this journey. You brought me to Canada so that my children and I could have the opportunities we have today. And finally, I’ve waited many years to say this: 阿爸,我得左啦! (Dad, I've made it!) 😀 ------ Special thank you to Garry Chan, Chief AI Advisor at ventureLAB for the nomination. Mayor Frank Scarpitti is proud of our City of Markham connection! 😍 "Enterpreneurs move us forward" - I couldn't agree more with ACCE President and Chair, Raymond Chik who introduced me to this wonderful network of enterpeneurs in Canada!! 🙏 Feiran Zhou, Agnes Lan - it was extra meaningful to be able to celebrate with you who have witnessed the very beginning of our startup! To Victor Oh, Winner of the Lifetime Achievement award and Aisha Yang, Winner of Enterpreneur of the Year - you are an inspiration!
