“Is capacity the new capital?” That question is becoming increasingly important. Communities are often rich in ideas, opportunities, and potential, but without the people, partnerships, systems, and leadership capacity to move projects forward, growth can stall before it begins. In this soundbite, we explore why investing in capacity building may be one of the most important economic development strategies of our time. From collaboration and leadership to readiness and resilience, sustainable growth starts with the ability to act on opportunity. Economic development is no longer just about attracting investment. It’s about building communities that are prepared to leverage it. Listen and join the conversation: https://seda.ca/podcast/ How is your organization or community strengthening capacity for the future? #EconomicDevelopment #RuralDevelopment #Leadership #CapacityBuilding #InvestmentReadiness #CommunityDevelopment #Innovation #StrategicPlanning #RegionalGrowth #SEDA

One of the most important conversations happening in communities, organizations, and economic development right now is this: Are we investing enough in capacity, or are we only funding outcomes? Capacity building is often the quiet engine behind long-term success. It’s the training, leadership development, systems, partnerships, governance, staffing, and strategic thinking that allow communities and organizations to move from surviving to thriving. In this podcast conversation, Brenda shares thoughtful insights on: - Why capacity matters - The risks of underinvesting in people and systems - How sustainable growth happens over time - What stronger communities and organizations really need to succeed Too often, we expect transformational results while operating with stretched resources and limited infrastructure. Real impact takes investment behind the scenes, not just visible deliverables. This conversation is a reminder that sustainable progress is built layer by layer... kind of like a strong foundation beneath a beautiful structure. Why Leadership, Governance, and Human Systems Are Saskatchewan’s Most Critical Economic Infrastructure. For much of Saskatchewan’s history, economic development has meant building tangible things: highways and rail lines, water systems, industrial parks, and processing plants. Growth was something you could see—and measure—in steel, concrete, and capital investment. That infrastructure still matters. But it is no longer what holds us back.
