By 2050, it is projected that we will need to be removing 5-10 GT of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to avoid the worst impacts from global warming. In our latest article, we explore how rivers are one of the most overlooked pieces of global climate infrastructure, and how CarbonRun, a Panache portfolio company, is working to enhance their natural carbon removal processes. Restoring river alkalinity can do more than repair ecosystems. It can enable measurable, durable carbon removal with a clear pathway to scale. CarbonRun's approach builds on decades of river restoration science, now paired with real-time monitoring, carbon accounting, and third-party verification. The result is a system that works within existing watersheds to convert CO₂ into bicarbonate and store it in the ocean for tens of thousands of years. Under the right conditions, rivers can resume their natural carbon transport role impaired by decades of acidification, while improving water quality and supporting local ecosystems. Today, Canada Rocket Company was chosen and awarded an $8.3 million grant by the Government of Canada under the Department of National Defence/Ministère de la défense nationale’s IDEaS Program to establish and accelerate Canada's sovereign access to space. As space becomes increasingly contested, the ability to launch from our own soil - and on our own timeline - is a national security requirement. This funding accelerates our work toward giving Canada assured, sovereign access to space. Since our public debut two months ago: - We have doubled our team, bringing over 100 years of launch program and infrastructure experience to Canada (more than half are repatriating). - Begun construction on a brand-new engine development facility in Toronto for our 700kN methalox E-1 engine - Secured $14.7m of total funding to date If you want to help build Canada's launch capability, we're hiring (link in the comments).
