  • Studying abroad? Health insurance isn’t an “extra”, it’s your ultimate safety net. When planning your international education, it's easy to focus on visas and housing, but medical coverage is non-negotiable. The cheapest plan becomes incredibly expensive the first time you actually need it. Before you fly, make sure you fully understand: - What’s covered (and what’s excluded) - Your deductible (what you pay before insurance kicks in) - In-network care (how to find approved doctors and hospitals) - The claims process (how it works in your specific destination) - Protect your health and your finances so you can focus on what matters: your education. Have you looked into health insurance for your destination yet? Let us know in the comments!

  • Eid Mubarak to all our students, families, and partners celebrating around the world! Whether you are celebrating back home with your family or observing it abroad with new friends and your campus community, we wish you a beautiful day filled with peace, joy, and delicious food. To our international students celebrating away from home today: we know it can be tough to be far from your usual traditions, but your global Lurniq family is celebrating with you in spirit. Where and how are you celebrating Eid this year? Let us know in the comments below!

  • Health insurance isn’t “extra.” It’s your safety net. When studying abroad, medical emergencies shouldn't turn into financial emergencies. Before you choose a policy, make sure you thoroughly understand: - What’s covered (and what is excluded) - The deductible (what you pay out-of-pocket first) - In‑network care (how to find doctors that accept your plan) - The claims process (how you actually get paid back in your destination) A hard truth for international students: The cheapest plan is expensive the first time you need it. Protect your health and your finances.

We won the TechWorld Hackathon! 🎉 I was honoured to place 1st in the TechWorld Hackathon premiere edition. We were to develop a website to model 3D machines to help students understand concepts more easily. It was 7 hours we had — from 6 am until 1 pm. We had indeed made some preparations, and now it was time to execute our potential as best as we could and make the project as impactful as possible. My team mates, Eliana, and one who mirrors my name — Chris — were great people to work with throughout. Fast forward, we finished our project and were distinguished with awards for the best developed website. Now unto how our website works: Tangible considers students who struggle to visualize “blunt” concepts in books and study materials. Here we create a virtual lab — a platform where students can interactively explore machines in 3D, rotate components, and better understand how they work. This idea was inspired by challenges I’ve personally seen while studying electrical engineering. Grateful to my amazing teammates and the TechWorld Hackathon organizers for the opportunity. 🔗 Explore the platform here: https://lnkd.in/dkSHY6sh

  • A single missing document or a mismatched date shouldn't be the reason your study abroad journey gets derailed. When it comes to student visas, small oversights can trigger a chain reaction of delays, or worse, a denial. If you are preparing your application, double-check that you aren't falling into these common traps: - Inconsistent documents: Ensure names, dates, and details match perfectly across all paperwork. - An unclear funding story: Your financial proof must be transparent, verifiable, and meet exact embassy standards. - A vague study plan: Be able to clearly articulate why this specific program aligns with your background and future goals. - Missing translations: Every non-English document must be properly certified and translated. - Last-minute scheduling: Interview slots fill up months in advance. Book early. Take control of your timeline and audit your documents before you submit them. Preparation is your best defense against unexpected delays.

Most families argue about college money for one simple reason: the plan is too vague. When costs are unclear, anxiety takes over. As an international student, you have to treat this like a professional presentation. Don't just bring the total cost of attendance to the dinner table, bring a strategy. Here is your simple script and checklist for the money conversation: 1. Bring Exact Numbers: Don't guess. Outline exact tuition, housing, flights, and daily living cost estimates. 2. Bring Timelines: When are deposits due? When does tuition actually drop? Knowing when money is needed is just as important as knowing how much. 3. Bring Options: Break it down into three clear categories: What is covered (Secured savings/family funds) What needs to be borrowed (Loan realities and repayment) What is pending (Scholarships or grants you are waiting on) 4. Bring a "What If" Plan: What changes if currency exchange rates fluctuate? Having a buffer shows maturity. A shared, realistic plan doesn't just get you to campus, it protects your most important relationships along the way. How did you handle the funding conversation with your family? Let me know below!

  • Stop asking “Is it a top school?” Start asking: Will I get access to research, internships, mentoring, and support? We often get blinded by brand names and global rankings, but prestige alone doesn't guarantee a great student experience. A decision letter is an invitation to spend the next few years of your life somewhere, make sure it's a place that actually serves your goals. Fit is about the opportunities you can actually touch, not just a name you can say. When evaluating your university offers this month, look for the tangible support systems that will launch your career. What is the #1 non-negotiable factor you look for in a university program? Let me know in the comments!

  • Negotiation isn’t begging, it’s professional advocacy. If your financial aid package falls short, you can appeal. But how you ask matters just as much as why you're asking. Admissions and financial aid offices deal with hundreds of appeals, so your goal is to make it as easy as possible for them to say "yes." When writing your appeal letter, keep it tight: - Express excitement: Reiterate that they are your top choice. - State the gap: Clearly define the exact financial gap preventing you from enrolling. - Share relevant changes: Highlight new, concrete circumstances (loss of income, major currency swings, or competing offers from similar institutions). - Ask a specific question: Don't just ask for "more money." Ask if they can adjust your grant based on your new documentation or match a competing offer. - Attach proof: Always provide documentation to back up your claims. Clarity beats emotion every time. Frame your request logically, and you stand a much better chance of bridging the gap. Have you ever successfully negotiated an aid package or scholarship? What strategy worked best for you? Let's discuss below!
